Mechbuilds Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) Instead of creating countless threads, i've decided to make one singular big thread showcasing my projects. This first post is reserved for pictures with quote links of the finished projects. Tracked truck: Edited March 25, 2019 by Mechbuilds Quote
Mechbuilds Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) This is my quick sketch of what i'm planning once i get my lego desk setup. I'm planning on making a technic tank which has the features shown above. Next i'll begin designing the bogie suspension with LDD. Spoiler Idea is to make a versatile tank platform with detachable turrets. Edited December 27, 2018 by Mechbuilds Quote
Mechbuilds Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) Here is a LDD design of the bogie suspension part.. Not sure how durable this setup is but it's giving a gist of the scale. For the front wheel, i'm open for ideas.. If i can't figure out anything decent, i'll just use the bigger sprocket. EDIT: Belt tensioner will be using these: EDIT: I think this might be a more sturdier bogie suspension compared to the old one: Which one looks better? Edited December 27, 2018 by Mechbuilds Quote
Mechbuilds Posted December 29, 2018 Author Posted December 29, 2018 After testing out this bogie design. I found out that the sprockets would stay up and stick that way.. Back to the drawing board... Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 8x8 offroad project has come to an end. It's a functional 8x8, 4 wheel steering offroad frame. Fully RC. I need parts for my tank project so this project is scrapped and sacrificed for the greater good.. Moving on, i've finally figured out a good bogie suspension for the tank and here's a little sneak peek.. The rear sprocket is the driving wheel.. And the wheel at the top is where the track rests.. Now i need to figure out a way to have a front wheel that has a suspension on it.. Any ideas or tips? The front suspension needs to be max 6 studs high, 7 studs long and 3 studs wide. I'll be using these for the springs: Quote
1gor Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I suppose that set 42094 gave you idea...sorry to here that 8 X 8 tatra styled truck will be history but you have final in your projects. Quote

All for the greater good.. My plan is to make a technic RC tank chassis and use normal bricks as the outer shell to make an RC tank. Currently i'm thinking if i should make a subtractor gearbox setup and use a XL motor as the drive motor and a medium motor for steering OR use two XL motors and just have skid steer instead. I wonder what the benefit of having a subtractor is over just two XL motors side by side.. Quote
1gor Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 (edited) I see, I had plan to make fully RC model, but my pets and wife do not enjoy sound of Pf elements, so I use moderate amount of pf elements just for pto and 3 point hitch... Since I'm living witness of depending liberating war (we in Croatia were the most brutally attacked, torched and massacred) I'm not such Fan of tanks, but I appreciate your way of building. Mechbuilds Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you and your family are safe! Back on topic, I'm taking the lazy way out and just going with two L motors.. Gotta set up an order and wait till they arrive. They should have plenty enough power and torque to move this thing. It's not that big to be honest. So skid steer it is! Quote
1gor Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 We are, it was from 1991 to 1995... I know the feeling when something is missing but it will sort it out. Important is to make successful tests to see if it performs as it is planned. Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 Update! Added driving sprockets with gearbox in the middle. Both sprockets are clutched (For now.. Might swap to 24 teeth gears if the clutches slip all the time) There is room for two L motors and a battery in the middle. The gearing is setup to 3:1. Now i'm just waiting for those two L motors and i can continue the build! Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 2, 2019 Author Posted January 2, 2019 A little bit of progress has been made. Now the tracks are assembled and the tank frame is taking shape! However, i'm facing a few problems.. 1. I still don't have those L motors.. Since they're part of the frame, i can't really continue without them. 2. Battery fitment is going to be a nightmare since the battery will be very close to the front upper wheels.. 3. The middle bogie basically floats Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 (edited) I'm thinking about making a LDD file of this tank.. Would anybody want instructions on this once it's finished? Please comment! EDIT: Still trying to figure out a smart way how to attach the battery... At this stage, the battery is mounted in a way that you need to disassemble the tank to change the batteries.. I need to figure out a solution so the battery will fit and not sacrifice the looks of the tank. Edited January 4, 2019 by Mechbuilds Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 The tank chassis got a small overhaul and the bogies got completely redesigned. Here is my new bogie design. With hard springs, they can handle the weight of the tank. The image shows all parts used. I purposefully made it a modular design so it's easy to install and move on a long beam. Feel free to copy this design! I call this the: "Mechbuild's modular bogie" Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) The project is slowly but surely crawling forward.. Currently i'm waiting for some T beams and hard springs.. But while we wait: This is the new and improved chassis.. It's going to be 2 studs wider and much much longer.. The gearing is currently 1:1 so it's going to be very peppy.. I might convert it back to 3:1 to make it slow again after i get to test the fast mode first.. Edited January 19, 2019 by Mechbuilds Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) Update: EDIT: I'm going to make the front sprocket have a suspension so it can go up and down, simultaneously tensioning the tread. I can't figure out a good linkage that lets it work properly.. The sprocket seems to bend outward once the tread is attached. Edited January 21, 2019 by Mechbuilds Quote
Mechbuilds Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) Image dump where i'm currently: I just can't figure out how to make this suspension sprocket work in the front.. I need it to move up and down.. EDIT: Figured out a solution.. I lengthened the chassis a bit and put down the third bogies. It's not too long after all.. I'll post pictures some time soon. Mechbuilds Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 Had a blast driving with it.. Now i think it's time to disassemble it and make it to a tracked tractor.. Before i disassemble it though, i need to figure out a way to have an XL motor drive it and either a medium or a large motor steer it.. Does anybody have a subtractor build that's compact and driven by one XL motor and steered by one large/medium motor? Quote
Mechbuilds Posted February 11, 2019 Author Posted February 11, 2019 Had fun with the WIP tank i build after the earlier one.. Here are some pics: But it's time for a new project.. But this time, it's a moc that's based on the lego AROCS.. Here is a teaser: Waiting for parts... Quote
1gor Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Truck is more interesting to me; looking forward... Quote
Mechbuilds Posted February 13, 2019 Author Posted February 13, 2019 Update time: I'm currently stuck trying to figure out a way to mount the steering system so it utilizes the clutch so oversteering wont grind gears and cause problems.. Help is appreciated if anybody has a suggestion? Any ideas? Quote
Mechbuilds Posted February 13, 2019 Author Posted February 13, 2019 My Brother is absolute legend. Figured out this genius way to attach this so it works and doesn't destroy the gears when my 5 and 3 year old daughter is playing with the truck and possibly holding the turning motor on constantly... Pics: Yeah! Quote
Mechbuilds Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 Update: The rear axle is now connected and it uses two softer springs. It's slightly longer than the original lego arocs. I decided to scrap the idea of using an XL motor cause the L motor seemed to have enough torque to move this beast. It was too fast for my taste so i swapped the gear on the imput shaft so it's more torquey. Steering works fine! Quote
Mechbuilds Posted February 19, 2019 Author Posted February 19, 2019 Update! The cab part is almost finished.. Just need the two lights in the bumper. Instead of having the fake engine, i opted for two large motors powering the rear wheels.. Steering servo comping soon.. Cheers to @Alexis Vilvert (Muuss) for sharing he's arocs mod. This is based on it but modified a little. Quote
Mechbuilds Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 Update! This puppy has been added to my collection. Now i have two controllers and two receivers.. Now i start to wonder.. Should i go for a crawler in my next moc or make a tracked truck.. Quote
