Hi everyone,

I'm planning on motorizing the crane that comes with 7994 harbour. I want to build it as compact as possible. Does anyone have any experience using the motor from 6484 F1 Hauler for a crane like this? I know it is the weakest motor but the compactness is really usesfull and it would only have to lift small loads.

Failing that, does anybody know if the older 2838 motor can be powered by the 4760 batterybox?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

The old Red Lego Micro Motor was well known to be unreliable and often seized up.  It was also quite noisy when running.  It also ran at quite slow speed and low torque.  But depends on your needs.  Lego used it a few times outside of the F1 hauler, it also appeared in a police/coastguard launch as a motor to turn the radar.  and a couple of other sets.  Once I believe in a Technic Universal set?

They are also quite expensive but as you say, were be very compact, it might rotate the super structure of the crane, but I'm unsure if it would have the power to raise a loaded container

I personally love to see motorised/animated layouts,

Hey @Hobbythom

The micro-motor is pretty weak and slow, it might be able to hoist small loads when geared down, but it will be very slow, the motor shaft is just a stud, giving very little friction, the part that connects the shaft (stud) to an axle has a built in rubber, so it can slip in case of stalling (these motors burn up easily since they do not have any current protection and are easily overloaded) If it is usable depends on how small of a load you are planning.

And Yes, that batterybox can power the  2838 motor.
