leafan Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Hi everybody, I often purchase Lego assorted lots from eBay and other online sellers so thought I'd share my latest success story (at least subjectively for me). Hopefully this is ok. I did see the 'Finds' forum but I'm not sure that's A) active or B) relevant. Firstly, I'm a huge Castle and Classic Space fan, so I'm always on the lookout for those pieces. I was browsing eBay and noticed this picture. Buying this way is always risky but I certainly spotted a few things of interest. Winning it cost me about £26 including postage costs. Notice anything worthy of more than a glance? The first thing that I noticed was those Knight minifigures in the style of the classic 375 Castle and that there was lots of yellow pieces (ok they got my attention!) and possible classic Space pieces. I'm not in the luxury position of being able to purchase a complete 375 so this is a good route into it for me. I also noticed that there was clearly a mixture of classic and modern Lego in there. Here is the lot poured out onto my table. And the most interesting pieces are here. First off, I can see pieces that I do infact have pieces of the classic Castle set 375! Not only that, but parts that appear to be from a decent classic Space set like 487 or similar. The antenna is hard to find unbroken from that era but I'm unsure what set it came from. Here are the minifigures and accessories. Now it's clear that the castle isn't complete, but I do seem to have most of the unique pieces. There's a picture here together (with generic yellow pieces removed). So what do you think? Good haul? Do you have any stories and/or pictures of hauls in the Historic line to share? Or other themes (please post in relevant forum and link to me :)). Thanks for reading! Quote
Holodoc Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 'Good haul' is always depending on what you are looking for... In this case I would tend to the answer "Yes", but only after having taken a glance at the goodies you posted photos of. I would not have bought the offer just by looking at the one photo you have mentioned first. It didn't seem to consist of many worthy pieces. But your idea behind it didn't mislead you: I have noticed the knight minifig first and parts like this are always lead to something interesting. Even more with the yellow bricks. You did find some nice bricks after all: The mentioned antenna of course! And just like you stated - unbroken!!! They are selling for around 15€ at BL (you can find all 10 sets it came in here.) Then the yellow lifting mechanism for the drawbridge of set 375 and the wonderful Classic Space bricks with printing in an almost mint condition! I also noticed some of the older windows which may become handy in some MOCs just bcause of their unusual proportions (1x4x2). So, yep - good haul! More than 10 years ago (that good ol' times y'know... )I found this photo in an offer: It was on sale for 10 (TEN!) Euros... And the old lady was relieved to get rid of what she found in the attic. I instantly knew the ship from the box (6285) would be buildable. And I was right. This alone were the figs that came with the offer: There were so many 'leftovers' after having build Black Seas Barracuda that I sold this rest for more than 10 €... Quote
leafan Posted November 14, 2018 Author Posted November 14, 2018 Wow you had a great score! That lone Knight amongst all of those Pirates makes me uneasy though I think 10 years ago and more was a great time to eBay, but I was in my dark ages The only reason I got my score was that it didn't look anything special at first glance. I had to zoom in and really scan it over. I need to go to more Car Boot Sales; do they have those in Germany? In the UK they're like garage sales but in a big field and on stalls set-up at the rear of peoples cars. Quote

But I strongly believe the time to make bargains is over. Nowadays almost everyone knows about the value of LEGO. Quote

Nowadays almost everyone knows about the value of LEGO. Well I guess that depends on the definition of a bargain. My haul above shows that you can get a deal, but generally I agree on the secondary market that it is harder. Although on the first day of the Amazon UK Black Friday deal, I got a new Lego Creator 31084 Pirate Roller Coaster for £35! That's 0.03p per piece. Quote
