ks6349 Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 (edited) I want to build a small town, I think the street sets of "Creator Expert" are essential. However, I want to start with something easier like "3 in 1" and "LEGO city". I think they don't fall into the categories of Creator Expert. I'd like to know if the size and the style of those sets would match that of the "Creator Expert? Would the trucks or minifigures be so large that they will not match the street building of Creator Expert? I am asking this question because if their size will have a big contradiction, I will then give up working on 3 in 1 and LEGO city Edited October 28, 2018 by ks6349 Quote
Mylenium Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 Most City and 3 in 1 sets will fit with the modular buildings, a few of them not so much. It all depends on the elements used in the actual build. E.g. several City and 3 in 1 buildings will often use large panels instead of rows of bricks to keep it simple for building, so they tend to end up being slightly taller because the individual storeys are taller. Similar for vehicles - a van's roof can be higher than an Expert building's ground floor and this could look fake when they stand next to each other. Still, you can always modify stuff to match a unified appearance. Minifigures are more or less a uniform size and fit both worlds just fine. In the end it's still down to your own experimentation and what variations and deviations you find acceptable. Mylenium Quote

I have a strong preference for the downtown diner, it's on sale here, the price is a steal. However, here is another sale for assembly square approx. USD 200, is it a good price considering the number of pieces ? Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted October 28, 2018 Posted October 28, 2018 Considering how mismatched real buildings in real cities can be, I think there’s room for a lot of flexibility in how well-matched can be or not be in a LEGO city. :) Quote
LegoDW Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Issue with city sets are vehicles are 4,6 or 8 stud wide. Really throws off the display scale when a tow truck is smaller then the car it is towing. Your 3 in 1 and City buildings usually do not include any depth or rear walls. If you go with Modulars, you will have to decide if you want to take out walls of the modular (not the best option as will lose all the interior details) or add onto you city buildings (adding depth and the missing walls). The second IMO is best as you can also add custom interior components. Quote

But the creator expert makes the building more looking like reality. Quote
antp Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Most of the Creator 3in1 or City building will look very tiny compared to the Creator Expert modular buildings. Except the recently released hospital, which is fine at the side of a modular building (but may require additional parts if you want it having the same depth as the other buildings, and a back wall).
