knotian Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 (edited) I am building a MOC that for HISTORICAL ACCURACY I'd like to use chain rather than rope/cable to operate parts. The problem is trying to fasten the chain to anything other than chain. I have found that I can fasten the chain, ending in a closed link, by using a 30553 (Hinge cylinder 1x2 locking), and then an axle connected to the object. This is not a "legal" connection, but a jam fit. Does anyone have a way to fasten the open end to a brick, panel etc.? Thanx Edited September 13, 2018 by knotian Solved Quote
suffocation Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 The old tread links can fit on either side into one of the holes in a z24 gear. This technique was used on a Technic set from back in the day - can't remember which. Quote
Seasider Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 (edited) Are you using Technic Chain 3711? if you are use Link Tread 3873 at the ends and this will push fit into a standard hole. this technique is used on Fork Lift 8843 ... from 1984! http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/8843/Fork_Lift_Truck Edited September 13, 2018 by Seasider Quote
knotian Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 Seasider, OUTSTANDING!!!!! Thanks a lot. Wish I knew this a lot earlier because I could have saved myself a lot of gnashed teeth and head pounding. Now the bruises can heal. Ed Quote
Seasider Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 The fork lift is one of the original Technic models I have (though in need of some replacement parts) and I remember the chain mechanism well. glad to have solved your problem. im guessing the link will fit securely into a studless liftarm if you’re going in that route too Quote
ludov Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 Part 3873 also fits under a standard 1x4 plate. Quote
