Joey Lock Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) I was reading the Paper, and I saw this: I know, We can all do better versions! *sweet* Ecpecially this one look: Sorry but that is well..er, Crap. :-/ Full Anywho whatta you think? Edited April 5, 2008 by Joey Lock Quote
Opproperaar Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 The idea is great, but the details, meh It can definitely be done better. But, and especially the famous pic of the lone Chinese protestor, the idea is very original indeed. *sweet* Quote
Plural Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Yeah, I saw this in the paper yesterday. Its a good idea and you can tell what pictures they meant to be, so I suppose the builder achieved wha he set out to do. Quote
Brainbox Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Interesting. The idea that is, the implementation could be better. That said though, the article does imply that this guy isn't an AFOL, merely an 'amateur photographer.' So I suppose we couldn't realistically expect a true work of art. And I guess it's always nice to see Lego in the mainstream. Quote
Matn Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 (edited) That isn't crap. Never say LEGO is crap. :'-) He's a photographer and he is doing it well. I like how he takes pictures. Nice ideas, I'd like to see more of him. And I like those little, cool tanks! Edited April 5, 2008 by Matn Quote
casewindu Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 these are nice ideas and I always like to see Lego in the media, shows what us guys get up to! :-D However i definatly think the tanks could have been made a little bigger than the protester, I mean if the tanks were really that size i think there would be afew more people getting out infront of them X-D nice find anywayz! *y* Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Crap? CRAP??? The only crap is Megablocks! *sing* That is fine art, considering that you don't see many things like it. Quote
phoinix Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 no i cant call these crap! i think they are very nice!! maybe they dont have great details but when you see an image you can recognize the original image and that is the key of the whole thing Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Hmm, I think I've seen it done much better before. It's a nice idea just not done very well, Tiananmen isn't great in my opnion. Maybe we'll see something better soon. Quote
LegoLyons Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Not crap, but could be done much better. I mean even the protester has the suitcase in the wrong hand, thats just basic observation. Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Crap? Sorry, but no, the compositions are very nicely done. He's not going for technical excellence in LEGO, he's just recreating classic images. I find it odd that anyone would regard these as "crap", it's art. I've been following this chap's work for some time. Worth checking out his Star Wars photos on Flickr - Balakov is his name. Dr. S. Quote
chris_austin Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 no i cant call these crap!i think they are very nice!! maybe they dont have great details but when you see an image you can recognize the original image and that is the key of the whole thing Exactly. I don't think they were intended to be incredibly accurate and there will always be someone who can add more detail! If you just don't like them then fair enough I suppose but if they were mine i'd feel a little insulted. Got to have a look at the other stuff now. Quote
