After knocking down a statue, our team of adventurers set out to find this wild beast rampaging through the island's jungle.

After much walking and tea breaks, the band approached an ancient ruin in an open area of the jungle. The beaten path ended at some stairs up to a sort of monument, except it was missing the monument.

Lieutenant Joshua felt the eyes of a predator upon him as he led the team closer to the structure. There were no birds chirping, no insects buzzing, just silence...

Out of the greenery jumped a stone monster, devouring poor Lady Enia. Joshua and Angus turned and fled towards the steps while Jacques le Méchant stumbled at the sheer surprise of the beast appearing.

The stone creature trampled upon Jacques on it's way towards the remaining two. Joshua got a good look at the thing, with it's large ruby eyes, sharp scarlet teeth and powerful boulders as arms.

Angus Spud smirked, "another trophy to put on my wall", he said foolhardily. Because of the time he took to say that, the beast knocked him over before he could shoot.

Left on his own, Joshua grabbed the most suitable weapon at hand. No, not the shovel, or the pistol in the backpack. Lieutenant Joshua armed himself with a pan, fearing to look into the monster's eyes.

Just then, Reverend Wesley MacJohn jumped in, stabbing his sabre into the creature's eye. Everything seemed to fade into blackness.

Joshua awoke, the monster was now standing atop the monument, as if it had been for centuries.

"What happened?" he asked, "The beast, you killed it. How long was I unconscious for?"

"You are mistaken, sir," the Reverend replied, "I buried that bluecoat, followed this trail and seen Angus and yourself knocked out next to this golden chest, the others are dead."

"It can't be, I remember it as clear as day, the stone monster killed the other two and was about to kill me before you jumped in."

"Ehh?! What happened, I must have nodded off for a bit" Angus Spud slurred as he sat at an angle.

"Angus, you remember the battle with that beast, don't you!" asked Joshua anxiously.

"Nah son, I've been drinking out this hip-flask the whole journey, I don't know what's real and what isn't. If you want my side of the story, I single-handedly killed that thing and then I just laid down til you folks woke up.  Anyway, when do I get paid and where is the nearest pub?"

"Fool, you must have had a satanic vision, and fought with demons, hence why there's two dead" stated Reverend MacJohn.

Joshua now had three versions of the story, which one was true?

They decided to take the golden chest. Dragging it away, he was sure the monster growled from atop the stone stairs. What if the monster was real? What if the team fought over the treasure and he had been knocked out? What if another killing spree happens within the jungle?

I suppose the dark secret on the Île d'Or will remain unknown...

Nice statue and monument, it's surprising how Jacques and co dead so easily, I thought le Mechant was the hero of the adventure, he was a bluecoat afterall.

Who knows what killed him? Maybe he went down with dysentery :pir-grin:

I always thought of Oleon soldiers as the Redshirts of BotBS. :pir_tong2:
