Shadows Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 As I said in the Hoth Officers thread, Luke has often been represented by customizers as a standard Hoth soldier with a white police hat and goggles. The hat and goggles are fine, since we don't have a better alternative, but that torso is wrong. Matter of fact, it's wrong for Hoth soldiers as well. Standard troops wore white vests, only officers wore tan. Both wore the same thing underneath, and it was white as well, so both decals should really be applied to white torsos instead of the tan that LEGO uses. Check out this page for close-up pics of the actual Hoth Luke costume. Hoth Rebel Soldier Luke: Flesh, Yellow Hoth Soldier: Flesh, Yellow The only future addition I may make is a version of each with a white scarf tucked in at the collar. Depending on the picture, sometimes they wear one, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the collar is more open, sometimes it's more closed. It varies a lot. The flesh and yellow versions should satisfy most needs. Quote
goggleson Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Good work! I wonder if you put these on a piece of armour it would look puffy like in the film... snow ON! *sweet* Quote
Wout Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Nice customs. Is the echo base trooper card from the real movie? It looks like Leonardo Di Caprio in it. Quote
Hinckley Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I finally made these torsos for you, shadows. Here are the clear water slide decals for the hoth rebel soldier. I'll print the driver torsos soon... Quote

It would have been so easy for TLG to produce a design like this instead of the silly one they did, and now we've proven it. It's a little scary though that I'm now looking at yellow SW figures and thinking they look funny. I can't believe they turned me fleshie. Quote
Hinckley Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 You're quite welcome. Sorry it took me so long. I think they look really nice! You've done an excellent job. I'll just imagine they aren't backwards. Isn't the insignia supposed to go over their heart? EDIT: Oh, I see it doesn't The decals need to mirror the way you want them to appear since it the printed side that goes down...So flip all of your files now while there's still time!! Quote

EDIT: Oh, I see it doesn't The decals need to mirror the way you want them to appear since it the printed side that goes down...So flip all of your files now while there's still time!! So let me see now... I need to do them bordered, unbordered, regular AND mirrored. 4 version for each colour variation. I'm gonna go do those 8 versions of Henry Jones Sr. now. He really does make a decent Willy Wonka. Who knew? Honestly, these look damn good in a mirror. Your printing, trimming, application and coating are all top notch. I wish I could manage that, I think I'd try putting together full figures and selling a few just to buy more supplies. People get some fairly stupid prices for the crappiest customs sometimes. Thanks again! Quote
Hinckley Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Decals that can be printed clear need to be mirrored. Decals that would be printed on white paper should be normal. You may want to leave it up to the decal printer to figure out what their need is ... Quote
Hinckley Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 OK, so here's an update with the torso faced the correct way. It took me a couple days to respond to this thread. Sorry, been busy. Shadows, we should make a back without the insignia and apparatus, so we can get the whole quilted vest effect! Quote
Derek Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 It came out very nice, even if it did take a "couple days". Quote
Shadows Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 OK, so here's an update with the torso faced the correct way. It took me a couple days to respond to this thread. Sorry, been busy. Whoa... Imagine my surprise when this popped back up. Shadows, we should make a back without the insignia and apparatus, so we can get the whole quilted vest effect! That really did turn out well, nice printing and application. I'll whip up a back for it and my tan Luke variation. I don't know why I didn't think of that before... Quote
Shadows Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 As promised, backs for both variations. Since no skin is showing, I only had to make one of each kind. Luke (Back) Hoth Soldier (Back) Quote
Hinckley Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Great. I'll get this done in a couple of days... Quote
