KDog Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I guess this isn't a MOC as much from an originality standpoint as it is a novelty. I needed a bar to use in my Lego Space comic, and I try my best to use actual Lego sets in the comic over MOCs, just because most Lego fans would be familiar with them, and I want to create a story around the official Lego sets. This is a little difficult when I need a structure that doesn't normally exist in Lego Space. The first set I made like this was a recreation of an actual house set from Town, only set upon the moon, although that hasn't appeared in the comic yet. The second set I did like that was the bar. I liked the little cantina from the Star Wars set, but I wasn't about to pay $150 on eBay for that set. So, I realized I could recreate the fairly simple cantina using different-colored bricks. And to my delight, I realized I could do it in Futuron colors, which was perfect for my comic. I recreated the Cantina exactly, only with white, black and translucent blue pieces. You can see the cantina in my latest comic strip at http://www.drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=380592 I am, however, going to make some changes to the set. I only discovered after I shot the pictures that the large, curved windows of the bar were finally available in translucent blue, thanks to a recent Spongebob set. I'm not plunking down a ton of money for that Spongebob set, but I did find a couple of the windows on Bricklink for like a buck fifty each. The current windows are trans-black, which looks good but isn't 100% faithful to Futuron. I also was under the impression that Futuron utlized some gray parts, which actually seems not to be the case now that I've looked more into it. I used some gray parts for the table in the cantina and the faucet at the bar, which again does look fine, but I'm going to try and change those out with black parts. So, the cantina will get a slight redeco before its next appearance in the comic strip (well, next storyline; wanna remain consistent in this one). Quote
Asuka Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 That´s a fine and well fitting cantina indeed, only the counter with the barmaid perhaps could need some improvements.... maybe a rack with some bottles and stuff in the background, and a little more place to lean on for the drunken ones.... :-P Quote
KDog Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 That's true, I could take some initiative and expand it. I went with the exact configuration of the Star Wars Cantina, since I like how it folds up nicely. Quote
