It's been a while! But I built for Varlyrio again, this time something quite different: a portrait of the characters from my story. I hope I won't be the only Varlyrian entering this important challenge :sweet: . (And for once, no backstabbing in this build :look: ).

Hi everyone! I've been browsing the forum for a while and seen some truly inspiring stuff on GoH, so decided its finally my time to join! Hereby pledging my allegiance to Varlyrio and introducing my sigfig:

Aletta Bernolfi hails from a long line of scholars and scientists. In keeping with family tradition, she is an aspiring polymath - in other words, she busies herself with such a vast array of subjects that few of her numerous projects ever reaches completion. Nonetheless, Aletta is known in Varlyrio's scholarly circles for her quick mind and endless hunger for learning.

Aletta works for her family's bookselling business but rarely concerns herself with day-to-day operations - her time is usually spent debating clients on subjects ranging from from the latest scientific treatises to Mitgardian epic poetry. This has proven an unexpected boon to business: many erudite (and extremely wealthy) patrons come for Aletta's sharp wit but rarely leave without a new volume or two.

Will try to introduce some of her family soon as well!

Also, I'm still getting the hang of both the forum and Flickr, so please bear with me if I mess something up

Finally built something again on a uni break!

(Might write a longer story for this moc later if I find the time!)

Guess I could also throw this in for 2F though it's a bit cheery for such a forlorn and perilous coast.

And welcome @stria! I look forward to seeing your builds and stories featuring Aletta and the Bernolfi family!

@GroverThank you! I didn't realize that you had to fix it manually so no worries on slowness. That sounds like quite the headache.

Yeah, it's kind of a hassle, but I think the old threads are so interesting they're usually worth it. The *really* old threads from Book I, I have to search on Google, which is tricky, but I can usually find them and am cleaning them up as we go. I'm trying to get the main pinned threads, particularly the new member guide cleaned up first.  I need to dive into the Varlyrio intrigue thread since all those links are messed up, but it takes a bit. If you have one of the new broken links, you can click on it, then in your web browser remove:

applications/core/interface/file/index.php?file=/index.php?/

from between the forum/ and forums/ directories in the link. Apparently the php has been replaced by a direct link.

Or you can let me know and wait for me to edit it.

Augusto Loredàn

Augusto%20Loredan.jpg

Augusto Loredàn is he fourth son of Lorenzo Loredàn, the current head of the noble House... out of the direct succession line, even if nobody knows, in the turbulent politics of Valyrio. Important enough to make decisions on his own, but expendable enough to be sent on dangerous missions, Augusto spends most of his days travelling across Historica, by sea or by land, and not always towards the most pleasant destinations.
Unlike other noble families, indeed, the Loredàns have commercial interests in usually neglected places, such as the Wasteland or the Pirate Coast... places where a good sword is at least as useful as a trade charter, but where a clever and open mind might be even more resolutive.
Augusto prefers by far the deck of a galley and the sea breeze on his face over the luxurious palaces of Illyrio: on a side note, the sword of a pirate might be less dangerous than a sip of poison or a knife in the back!

@Keymonus very cool!  Love the all Lego close-up, and the throwback swashbuckler hat!  It works well with that torso and the ruffled collar. I particularly like the square pattern on the deck. The rather interesting crystals in sand green in the back look rare and awesome (for an inside joke, you could throw a sand red brick in there if you own one! :roflmao:).  The detail on the rigging is very nice too, with the extra ropes taught on the sides. I'm also impressed how well the sword of gryffindor fits into the Varlyrian scene.  Well done, and I can't wait to see some of the adventures of Augusto!

Federico Velnerio

Federico Velnerio

Federico Velnerio has only recently assumed lordship over the fortified estate of the Velnerio family, following the passing of his father.

He is keen on making a name for himself, and looks to further the family's interests in the region. While his father carefully built up his wealth through trade and diplomacy, Federico seems to be eager to resort to 'other means' to expand his influence.

The house of Velnerio flies the golden crown on their banner, as the family claims distant royal descent from Cedrica. According to the family histories, they fled the capital a long time ago in times of war, and managed to secure a new life for themselves in the fertile countryside of Varlyrio. They rule from the top of their rock, overlooking a small but thriving town, earning its wealth through the trade of the many natural resources the area offers.

Great to see another new sig fig!  Love the hair!  It looks very stylish and well kempt for a noble.  Excellent blend of the old and new: new armor, old sword and shield.  I also like the all-Lego picture as @Keymonus has above. It really draws the viewer in. The shallow depth of field here does a great job blending the vine and flowers into the background, keeping the focus on the sig fig. Welcome to Federico and I look forward to seeing more of him soon!

Hello everyone, and thank you for your warm welcome! On my side, I welcome @Velnerius as our newest member! Great introduction and amazing minifig(s)! Where do the background soldiers come from? On a side note, I think our characters will be the exact opposite of what a Valyrian nobleman can be (old land nobility vs enriched merchant), it will be fun roleplaying those characters!

Thank you! This can be considered an elegant attire, but my character can be expected to often wear more comfortable travel clothes (translated: if anyone wants to use it, anything red or dark red is fine). The green crystals are something I plan to expand in future builds… I have no ideas about their original set, for me it was a Bricklink purchase!

Welcome to the guilds @Keymonus! Great introduction of Augusto, I am loooking forward to the adventures he will have! :classic:

Thank you! You can expect a lot of sailing, borderline legal trading enterprises, and debatable activities in the Wasteland!

I fully agree! I imagine at some point, Augusto and Federico might cross paths (or swords...!)!

The background soldiers are his personal banner carriers (their legs and torsos are of the DnD series paladin).

Thanks for the warm welcome, as well as the kind words! Full credit to my wife for the quality of the photography, as I'm terrible at it. I'll stick to building myself!

Here is my prelude challenge entry cat A. Unfortunately, I don't have time to make a B entry. Otherwise, I'd love to explore the wastelands or High Ridge mountains. Anyways, I hope to see more builds from other Varlyrians!
