Faramir Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Wow! I didn't expect that for a couple of months! Nice buy, do the review as soon as possible please. *sweet* . Was it $100 like we thought? --Faramir Quote

A few notes: IT was getting a lot of positive attention from customers of different ages and people who worked there alike. First day on the shelves maybe. Two different people commented negatively on the price looking at the size of the box compared to Market Street which is only 50 dollars more. -Tohst Quote
xenologer Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Cool What country was your Lego Store in? I dont see it online yet, and LDD Factory hasnt updated its brick pallet either.... ohwell Cant wait to get those parts for my MOCs. Quote
KDog Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 If I have time on Wednesday, I'll check the Lego store in Bridgewater, N.J. to see if they have either set. Quote
Brickmaster Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Wow, awesome :'-) Any chance at a review? :-$ Quote
KDog Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 (edited) If I a.) find them and b.) buy them. Don't like dropping $200 bucks at one time on toys, although the saving grace would be avoiding shippings costs. As much as I want Star Justice, I've had a reversal of feelings and now want the Space Skulls first. Anyway, the Lego Store in N.J. is along the route from my girlfriend's apartment to my place, and I think I'll have some free time on Wednesday ( I'm off that day.), so I'm gonna try and make time to stop in. Of course, they'll probably have none of the new Space sets. *wacko* There would be some satisfaction in being the first to get them and post reviews here. :-) Edited March 25, 2008 by KDog Quote
CP5670 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Good to see that it's out. As I mentioned in the other thread, I wouldn't pay $100 for it, but many sets have a tendency to show up cheap on ebay while they're still available. I'll look for it there. If I have time on Wednesday, I'll check the Lego store in Bridgewater, N.J. to see if they have either set. This is a bit OT, but I was curious if you've been there before. What is the PAB selection like? I'm not that far from this store either and would like to go at some point, but it is still a 30-odd minute drive and I wouldn't want to spend time with it if it's nothing special. Quote

I haven't been there before, as I only discovered the store was there recently. Been wanting to check it out, so this is a good reason. I'll let you know what it's like once I've been there. One thing I do wanna pick up, if they have it, is the Lego ice cube tray! I idea of ice cubes shaped like Lego in my Diet Pepsi bricks is too cool. :) Quote
Tohst Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I'd love to do a review but I'm going on a business trip. I don't even have time to build it *wacko* much less take the time to do a review justice. I'm kinda bummed as I finally find an early set and don't even have time to build the whole thing until I get back Saturday. If there isn't a much better review than I could do by then, I'll write one up but there are a lot of members in the Chicago area so I'm assuming someone will rise to the challenge. I did build the ground vehicle last night. Yes, I should've been preparing for my trip but I am a legoholic. It comes together really simply and nicely. I was very concerned about the canopy being open but then you add the SNOT work on the sides and its pretty well sealed. Well, close enough for goverment work. It reminds me more of Uranium Search Vehicle than Mobile Rocket Launcher which has inspired me to try to redo it with a rocket next week. And maybe some steering. I don't like the robots for some reason. Maybe when I finish building them and get some play time in they will grow on me. So, so far, a nice SNOT-heavy selection of pieces and a clean build that is already making me think of more possibilities. Highly Recommended at this point. -Tohst Quote
dunamis Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I just picked up both sets today at lunch. I'll try to get started on a review tonight (Star Justice is more appealing to me right now so I'll do that one first.) They were both $100. Approx 950 and 870 pieces if I remember correctly... Quote
KDog Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Cool. I stopped at my local Lego store and there was no sign of either of the space sets. New Jersey usually gets stuff later than California and even Ohio, though. The clerk I talked with didn't know what I was asking for at first, then remembered seeing the picture of "the thing with all the tentacles" in the Lego magazine they had. I asked if he knew when they would be out, but he just gave me the April 16 date in the magazine. Obviously, though, stores seem to be getting them in early. I'll probably check back next week. The Lego store was very cool, though. First time I've been in one. They had just about every current set you could want, including sets (mainly Castle) I have yet to see in other stores, and plenty of Lego items you wouldn't find in other retail stores. It was neat seeing the Factory items, and there was a display case with the new Main Street in it. It's cool, but smaller than I imagined. It's got to be neat working at a Lego store and getting to build the displays. I was a little overwhelmed by seeing all that Lego in one place. And I loved all the MOCs they had in display cases throughout the store. I would definitely recommend a visit to the store even if you wait until the two new space sets are out without a doubt. It's better than paying shipping, unless you burn that much in gas to get there. :) I finally got to buy my long-desired Lego ice cube tray, so I left partially satisfied. Would have felt much better if I left with some Space Skulls or Star Justice and was building them right now. :) The fact that other stores have the sets makes me wonder if they were just sitting in the stockroom. Ah, well. Unlike other toys, where you can blink and miss the ones you want, Lego sets are thankfully pretty easy to find in abundance. Quote

Thanks for the description. Did you manage to get a look at the Pick-a-brick area? That would probably be the biggest attraction for me, as the PAB orders from S@H take a while to arrive and the shipping prices become cumbersome unless you're buying other sets along with them. I also like the idea of seeing exactly what bricks I'm buying in advance. Quote

I also like the idea of seeing exactly what bricks I'm buying in advance. The whole back wall is Pick-a-Brick, with round containers full of bricks set into the wall. I'm not sure how many containers were repeats or not, but it looked like a good selection. What's funny is that a couple rows of containers are higher than I, and certainly any child, could reach. I'm not sure if every brick in LDD was at the store. The problem with Pick-a-Brick for me is that I'm not sure what I'll need unless I can sit there and start building, which I don't think you're supposed to do in the store. :) I was entranced by the 1x1 translucent blue bricks. I noticed an abundance of orange pieces, too. BTW, for what it's worth, the store gets most of their new stock in on Mondays. And while the smaller Lego sets on display get shipped to the store already built, the employees get to enjoy (and be frustrated by) building the larger sets, like the ginormous Millenium Falcon and four-foot tall Eiffel Tower they have.
