Tohst Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 So, as soon as I saw the new Lego Cement mixer I wanted to use the pieces for big honkin' engines for a Galaxy Explorer homage. When I found out they were two big pieces instead of round sections, well, I didn't let it stop me. Please take a look and let me know what you think. http://www.flickr.com/photos/14802561@N05/...57604214812775/ So, I need to figure out how to do a thumbnail from Flickr. -Tohst Quote
zero1312 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 COOL!!! X-O Kinda reminds of a Jedi Starfighter. :-| Quote
Faramir Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I like it! Kinda like a bulked up starfighter, classic-style! How many figs does it fit? --Faramir Quote

If you don't have the cargo area filled with Cargo, you can comfortably seat 5. If you want to clown car it, probably 8 or 9. -Tohst Quote
PaulC Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Nice! This has a real classic space feel to it. It's a shame that they don't do those wheel arch pieces in blue yet, otherwise it would be perfect. I think the short nosed version looks the better of the two. Quote
Yumago Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Looks very nice! I love the wings and tip on the long-nosed version, makes this baby look very sleek, a lot bigger (for some reason), and more importantly: like an actual spacecraft, heheh :-P I also like how the slightly discoloured gray pieces you used for the wings unintentionally create this sort of layered mechanical pattern that reminds me of an actual worn spacecraft hull, without you investing in and pasting on a thousand fancy greebling doodads. *sweet* *y* PS. I can't get used to this forum's smiley-codes ;) (<--- Pun definitely intended) Quote
Tohst Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) Thanks for the kind words. I like how some like the snub nosed version and some like the long nosed version. I was pretty torn between the two myself. The long nosed version would never pass the heat test of a real lego model. Of course, I don't think the cement mixer pieces would stay on either in that event. The range in greys is a happy accident of me being too lazy to try to find the pieces in either all old grey or bley but hey, if they make greebling unnecessary, perfect :-) -Tohst Edited March 24, 2008 by Tohst Quote
Asuka Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 A very interesting MOC.... these Cement Mixer engines´re done very clever, an original idea for sure. *y* The whole ship looks pretty smooth with fine proportions and neat details like the yellow&black stripes and the trans yellow parts. I´m not completely sure about the landing gear.... although it fits well, something retractable or just a little more complex could look better, perhaps.... 8-| Quote

I love the chunky smooth curved look of it. I can see how it would be even better if a few pieces were available in light grey where you had to use multiple pieces. What I found is a nice touch for my classic space MOCs is adding some stickers, e.g. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/hewman/9...918redwhite.jpg I got these off a guy that sells on ebay and bricklink, and they are top quality. Anyway, great work! Quote

Build something retractable and probably do a bad job and ruin the lines of the ship, None at all and just have it land on its belly. Finally went with the minimal fixed to better mimic the classic-space. I'll probably try retractable with MkII, I just wasn't confident it would look at all good for the first go. -Tohst who is wondering when the heck he is going to have time for MkII Quote
