Orange Dot Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Hi all, I've been doing renders for quite some time now, but a new model I'm trying to convert keeps running into problems. I keep getting the error message "cannot find file 'ldd-*****.bin' even after trying to append file type extension" (with the ***** replaced by the Lego part number.) At first I thought it was limited to the newer parts, but it's even doing it with older parts. What am I doing wrong? Quote
mocbuild101 Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 How exactly are you doing the renders, and where are those errors being showed? On 6/22/2018 at 3:49 AM, Orange Dot said: I'm trying to convert Convert to what? Quote
Orange Dot Posted June 23, 2018 Author Posted June 23, 2018 Thanks for the reply. I'll explain further. I'm using LDD to POV-RAY Converter, which then uses POV-RAY for Windows to render the model. On LDD to POV-RAY Converter, if I don't check the 'don't generate includes' box, I get an error window that says: "Unable to generate necessary includes. Root element is missing". When I do check it, everything is ok until POV-RAY for Windows opens and several things may happen. It starts to read the data but stops immediately and says: "cannot find file 'ldd_colors_declarations.bin' even after trying to append file type extension. \\.\LDDIncludes\ldd_default_colors.inc" line 20: Parse Error: Cannot open include file ldd_colors_declarations.bin." Or it starts to read the data then stops at a part it doesn't recognise with the error: "cannot find file 'ldd-*****.bin' even after trying to append file type extension" (With the ***** replaced by the part number.) Or more recently it just hangs, doesn't respond and eventually asks if I want to close the program. It's just weird that this has only started to happen a couple of days ago after using the programs for about 2 years rendering hundreds of models without any problems. I've tried several re-installs but still no joy. Quote
mocbuild101 Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 I haven't used that before, so I can't help you there, maybe have a look at this topic: Or maybe contact @hrontos, who (if I not mistaken) is the creator of LDD2PovRay. Quote
Orange Dot Posted June 23, 2018 Author Posted June 23, 2018 Yep, that's the program I'm using. It goes hand in hand with POV-RAY for Windows, but I don't know which program is causing the error. Quote
Orange Dot Posted June 23, 2018 Author Posted June 23, 2018 Success!!! After lots of reading and comparing it was a very simple thing to correct. On the LDD to POV-RAY Converter, clicking on the 'settings' button brings up a menu. I clicked on 'Setup paths' and this opens a window with two file path bars (and a third one that can't be edited). The second bar says 'Output path for includes:' Mine said: "C:\Users\Elwood\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\LDDInc" I changed it to say: "C:\Users\Elwood\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\LDDIncludes" Yep - just changed the last entry from 'LDDInc' to 'LDDIncludes' and everything is now working perfectly - in fact it's rendering faster than before. Hopefully this will help anyone else in the same situation. Still don't know why it just suddenly happened though. Thanks to all for their thoughts. Quote

Just curious: Were you able to render any of the newer pieces WITH LDD2POVRAY? Quote
