Hi, I open this topic to ask some questions about the 10144 Sandrawler :'-) . I am planing to buy it soon because all seems like it will be discontinued soon and I always like the look of this set. But it is so fragile at the bottom? I read some reviews and all of them say is too fragil in the bottom. Its a good deal, I am thinking in buy either the UCS star destroyer or UCS death star now becuse the discount at shop at home, so I buy the Sandcrawler or neither of the others, which is the best option?. Thanks for all the possible answers.

Edit: I read some other reviews and them describes the bottom like a bunch of baseplates, so it is like the 6211 star destroyer bottom, isn

I read those same reviews, too, before I bought it. But when I built it, I didn't have any problems. I don't see it as being anymore fragile than one of the Cafe Corner floors, which were several plates held together by 2x8's.

I won't say that it is the best thing LEGO has produced, but I don't regret buying it. And, since it is basically a hollow structure, it has a lot of room for interior modifications.

Hello!

I recently built the 1044 Sandcrawler and I can assure you that it's not as fragile as the ISD. If you take care when building and playing with, you won't have many problems.

Regarding the UCS x Sandcrawler, I believe they serve for different purposes. If you like playing with your legos, I would definitively suggest the 10144, since it provides lots of great MFs and helps to recreate the movie scene where Luke and his uncle Lars go out to buy new droids.

I also think it's a very good looking model and just looks great on the shelf.

See ya!

I bought it and had the same concerns, but had absolutely no problems whatsoever. Once it is built it is remarkably sturdy, especially when compared to 6211 Star Destroyer. Plus, the greeblies on the back and top are really awesome.

Go for the crawler, i dont know how many opportunities you will have to get a lars and jawa's. You can always make the base stronger with a little reinforcement.

I'll be building it eventually this year, and I can expect the same problems I know I had with the very very first Millenium Falcon. But a hard surface like some good old hardwood flooring should solve it! *sweet*

It's a great set, and I don't remember any structural weakness at all.

Even the treads, which seem like they would be boring and repetitive, were fun to me, though I can't really explain that. *wacko*

All in all, a fine set for building and displaying. I'm not convinced it's really great for rolling around, that isn't something I've tried. As suggested earlier, I did a 'Purchase of the Droids' scene and left it at that, and I'm quite pleased.

That said, if you don't own the UCS Imperial Star Destroyer, I'd buy it first. Clearly, it's a better deal with the current discount, and more likely to disappear sooner.

Just don't miss out on the Sandcrawler either, it really is a nice set (and the later ones apparently come with a darker coloured C-3P0 than the standard one, which is something I wish I had instead of the original one).

Surprisingly, it rolls around really quite well. You just be aware of rear-wheel steer.

I have both Sandcrawler and UCS Star Destroyer built. Played with the Sandcrawler for a while before it became a display piece. No problem whatsover with regards to its fragility (if there is such a word). The UCS Star Destroyer is another thing. I don't think you want to play with it. It's more of a static display and it is a bit fragile and have to be careful in moving it from one place to another. It's quite heavy, too, but for the price... I say go for it. If you're into minifig-scale, I say go with the Sandcrawler. You might not get another chance to own this epic StarWars vehicle. Good luck in your decision making and may the force be with you.

Thanks for the answer to all. I now decide to buy the sandcrawler because I am esentially a minifig scale collector and be the fact I only have the naboo and AT-ST in the UCS version an that all the UCS I have but from time ago to now I really wish to buy the star destroyer and I going to see if I can get both because the discount of the SD :'-), so thanks ;-) .
