I drew a template and made photocopies.  Then I draw the comic with pencil, then Sharpie, and scan it in.  There's a teensy bit of cleanup done digitally sometimes but for the most part I keep it as easy as possible.

I met one of LEGO's artists on another forum and he's been giving me tips here and there, so hopefully you see improvement over time!

Nice perspective in panel 3.

I used to draw and scan (non-LEGO) comics the way you describe. I miss that, sometimes.

Haha, you're on your own, dudes!

Unlimited free Sharpies and free time to draw are great job perks!

I had thought the mech was more of an original design for illustration, but nope! That is so cool to see it in RL LEGO!

Is Eclipse based on the Star Wars character?

Sort of, insofar as she's based on the LEGO minifigure of Juno Eclipse.  A lot of the SRG story is fluff I created around my collection, and I have a lot of Star Wars stuff.  So half the comic is Star Wars names and characters but in new roles.

Pirate Wonder Woman. I do enjoy the way this comic feels like you're just playing with your LEGO collection in any way you please.
