LM71Blackbird Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Class 10 Third-rate Ship of the Line "HMS Dominance" HMS Dominance 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr The largest ship to come from the Quinnsville shipyards - rightly dubbed the "Dominance" - is a third-rate 74-gun Ship of the Line. HMS Dominance 2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr She is crafted from the finest timbers found on all of the Island of Cocovia and is well equipped for any occasion, whether it be sinking enemies of the Crown, patrolling dangerous waters, or transporting important dignitaries. HMS Dominance 3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr She is even equipped with some experimental mortars on top of the stern castle for the purpose of besieging settlements. HMS Dominance 4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Before being launched into the Brick Seas, she was fitted with a copper covered hull to allow her as much maneuverability as is possible for a ship of her size. HMS Dominance 5 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr While the big 48 and 36 pounders are stored in lower gun decks, she has two small batteries of 9 pounders to make her a force to be reckoned with on the open sea. This is a ship that I have been working on for quite some time now! I put it aside for a while but decided to bring it back out and finish her up right. Many thanks to everyone that gave me advice on how to make it look like a proper ship! C&C are welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking! Darnok Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 Definitely a great looking rowboat. Appropriate for small lakes I guess? Not a real class 10 though! Seriously though, an impressive ship. Good looking overall, with some neat details (love those "rolled up sails"). A proper candidate for the flagship of a regional governor. Maybe @Ayrlego shows interest? Quote
Professor Thaum Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 2 class 10 for Oleon starts pushing it we used to say that's a nice LDD one ! Well done the furled sails ! Quote

Maybe @Ayrlego shows interest? Yeah, definitely more suited for the local Fishermen... Thank you! It's gone through a couple of phases to get this state. The rolled up sails idea came from a design from Professor Thaum. Just now, Professor Thaum said: 2 class 10 for Oleon starts pushing it we used to say that's a nice LDD one ! Ayrlego Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Wow LM71, she is indeed a beauty! her shaping is beautiful and I like the smooth lines that all the tiling give. The furled sails are indeed a nice touch. Our first third rate I think? Defiantly flagship material! Fantastic job! Quote

I believe that Corrington's largest sailing ship is currently @Mesabi WTC Judgement, which is a class 7. I believe that this is our first class 10 as well as our first ship of the line. I've got plans for several more ships like this in the coming months so stay tuned! Quote
Mesabi Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Excellent Ship Blackbird, I love how powerful she looks. Your efforts to build up the Corrish fleet have resulted in amazing results. Here's to you! 1 minute ago, LM71Blackbird said: I believe that Corrington's largest sailing ship is currently @Mesabi WTC Judgement, which is a class 7. You took the WTC Judgement's position as the largest Corrish ship however. Quote

I've got loads more of designs as well! Sweet! You still have the largest Licensed Corrish ship though. I'll have to save up to license this one. I have plans to create the largest ship in BoBs, but that may take a little while to build! Quote
Maxim I Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 It is a wonderfull vessel. Excellently built! But not a class 10... A third rate is a class 8. Given her 74 guns, she is bigger than most third rates (64 guns), so I could agree she qualifies for a class 9. Class 10 is at least 90+ guns in my opinion This is the only real class 10 so far: Sorry to be a pain in the megablocks. Quote
Bregir Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 As to classification, I will remind everyone that only size matters. If she is as large as the current class 10, she can be a class 10 regardless of her number of guns or Royal navy classification. I haven't had time to check up on it, but perhaps you could post her length and width in studs, LM? She is obviously large, and i am sure she is a class 9 or 10. I will try to comment on the (great!) moc in detail at some other point. :) Lastly, are you planning to license her yourself? :O The first and probably one privately owned class 8+ vessel! :P Quote

LM71Blackbird Posted June 4, 2018 Author Posted June 4, 2018 (edited) @Maxim I Thank you very much! As you probably already know, a Third-rate ship was a ship that consisted of two continuous decks and carried between 60-80 guns. Later Third-rate ships were known for carrying 74 guns as standard. Either way, my ship definitely falls into the upper portion of the Third-rate ship category. 20 hours ago, Maxim I said: Sorry to be a pain in the megablocks. No need to apologize! I'm quite familiar with the HRS Royal Philip, she is indeed a massive ship that would possibly () be able to sink my HMS Dominance. If it's more guns you want though, I was already planning on beginning work on a ship that will be larger then the Royal Philip! @Bregir She is 30 studs wide at her widest portion of the hull. She is 124 studs long at the water line and including the bowsprit she is a total of 193 suds longs. In real bricks that would be 39 inches at the water line. The Royal Philip measurements are: length at waterline is 120 studs, LOA 171 studs, beam 29. So I believe the Dominance fits the Class 10 standard in terms of length and width as she is 4 studs longer than the Royal Philip. Here are some size comparison photos: She will of course not seem quite as over bearing as the Royal Philip because the Dominance doesn't have a third gun deck. I also think I positioned the Imperial Flagship a little closer. I also what to make a few larger trade ships was well, so I figured this could be a nice escort. I should be able to license her in a couple of months. My long term goal is to have a small fleet of class 10s. I've already got quite a few names written down just for that purpose! Edited June 5, 2018 by LM71Blackbird Quote
