Fenghuang0296 Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 So, I've been noticing a recent trend; the prices of sets in Australian dollars is getting absurdly high when compared to their prices in US dollars, or most other currencies. Take the recent Sanctum Sanctorum; it's $99 USD, which equates to $130 AUD. But it retails for $170 AUD. Why is this? And it's a trend that follows through; Ninjago City Docks; $230 USD equals $300 AUD, not $350. And so on. Is there any reason that Australians are paying more for Lego than the rest of the world?
Artanis I Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Everyone pays more than USA. Will always be that way, since forever. It's not recent. Be thankful that it is only around 30-40% mark-up for Lego. It is 50-100% for other things. Also remember that our prices include GST, whereas most other places tax is paid on top of the asking price.
JopieK Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 If for now they keep ABS as the basic material instead of some bio-based plastic, we soon might be lucky, I mean plastic bags get banned, petrol cars get banned, the only way the sheiks will make money in near future is by booking LEGO sales I would say ;) On the topic: same is true for items from other companies including Apple.
MAB Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 It is £90 GBP, which equates to $160 AUD. So not that different. Plus you have the problem of a smallish population, isolated from the rest of the world with high shipping costs.
