Tanotrooper Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hey all, is I liked the idea for the contest, I'm gonna make some Impulse sets in hope to inspire LEGO to make some things similar. First up, the Roman gladiator! (see contest entry thread for more detailed description) Back of the box showing alternative model and the 3 possibilities to make gladiators: Retarius, Thracian and Murmillo. The Retarius was the "fisherman" inspired by Neptune or Poseidon and therefore used a fishnet with weights on it, to trap the opponent and a trident. They were very swift and agile, but wore almost no protection. Their main target was to make the opponent tired and to strike him then. The Thracian has a curved sword to fight for example the Murmillo with. He could stab behind the shield with this sword. He usually wore greaves as his round shield didn't offer enough protection. The Murmillo was the Roman gladiator. He used the shield like a legionnaire's one and had a dagger, with an enclosed helmet. He sometimes had a fish decoration on his helmet, and therefore would fight the Retarius. He also wore arm protection and greaves, sometimes even more to be very heavily armored. In battles, this would be the "Roman" as where he would fight a Hoplomachus for example, wich was the "Greek", to express Rome's victory upon it. Comments are greatly accepted! I wanted to enter the Roman legionnaire, but I don't have his helmet yet... TT Quote
