Dadster Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Besides Ebay, BrickLink, TRU, Target, etc, etc don't forget to check out your local consignment shop! I found a huge cache of really nice pieces (there were a few BrickBlocks and Mega-Blocks mixed in...) for a great bargain, IMO. About 14lbs for $7.00. For those of you who don't know...A Consignment Shop is a store where folks bring in old clothes, toys, video, DVD's, shelves, books - pretty much anything one can think of to try to sell them. Rather than holding a year-round sale through your home, the Shop holds the stuff, then when it sells, receives a commission of the sale. I told the lady to call me right up if she ever gets any other Lego in!
Brickmaster Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 There's been afew threads about great find's in GoodWill stores and such :-$ Personally I have no finds there, only been lucky from friends who outgrew lego and them giving it to me. I can never outgrow lego :-P Even now I tell anyone ill buy all their old lego, and have been discussing buying a rich kid's stash for quite some time. Just need to get to it and finalize it. ;-) Always nice to find a little treasure trove of lego. Congrats :'-)
Mr. Builder Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I have had a near same thing happen. I was in a flea market and my mom found 3 bags full of minifigs and stuff for $3 dollars each!
simonjedi Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I'll check my local charity shops (which is the UK version of GoodWill/consignment shops) during the week.
Landlubber Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Nice find. I bought 130 Kilograms of lego on the weekend. It cost me a couple of grand but it was well worth it. Pirates, trains, castle, space, technic and a stack of clasic town. Some sets with boxes and some very rare old parts packs and ideas booklets from around 1965 that were in mint condition. I had to take the van to pick it up. Wouldn't fit in the car.
jedikermit Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I've made some great bulk finds at thrift stores too--around these parts, there seems to be a lot of Duplo. I've got two preschool boys, so that comes in handy sometimes. A lot of regular LEGO too, but rarely minifigs.
Lord Of Pies Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I got the r2d2 droid developer set in a charity shop, complete with box for £2 once!!
Shoc Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 (edited) I rarely go in these shops, but when I have I've never found any Lego! I find another good place to get Lego is a car boot sale. I've only been to two but I saw a lot there, I got an assortment of Paradisa pieces from one car that turned out to be a whole set and more! So I recommend car boot sales as well. *skull* Edited March 19, 2008 by Shoc
casewindu Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Yes I have found many good lego sets in charity shops by where I live! My best was a box of pirate, city, knights all from the 90's! there was atleast 30 small and large sets in the box and all of it for £20! best bargain ever! :'-)
The Kid Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Sadly no :'-( I was forced (ahem) to pass up on a great box of assorted LEGO - I saw raised baseplates, old Pirate figs and plenty of other cool stuff in there :'-( TK
Medievalego Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Sadly no :'-(I was forced (ahem) to pass up on a great box of assorted LEGO - I saw raised baseplates, old Pirate figs and plenty of other cool stuff in there :'-( TK Soooooo jealous of all these juicy sounding finds! >:-( >:-( >:-( Thus far I have not found anything at thrift stores / garage sales etc. Unfortunately there don't seem to be many active thrift stores / consignment shops around me. I looked before, after reading a similar thread, but they'd all gone out of business :( I've got a few new locations lined up to check for the spring though. I'll post an update in a month or two. ~ M ~
madoka Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I once missed a complete and excellent condition Yellow Castle for $15 by about 6 hours at the Salvation Army Thrift store. I'm still haunted by that loss. :'-(
