letsbuild Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 (edited) Welcome to the second installment of the Annual Motorized Set contest, where this year's theme is Dragsters. A few questions that will inevitably arise: What is AMS? AMS is a contest where any Eurobricks member may take any released lego set, and modify it to meet the year's challenge. What is this topic for? This topic is for discussion, WIP photos, and questions on the rules. What is this year's theme? This year's theme is drag modified cars. How do I enter? Entering the contest is easy. You send me, in PMs, two pictures and a video of the final design, along with a small blurb that describes your design, and I will post it in a new voting topic. That way, voting is more organized. How long do I have? The deadline is June 1st, exactly one month from now. Do I have to send you my entry before then? Just send me your entry as soon as you can, once you finish your model. How does voting happen? The voting topic will explain how voting is done. What do I win? The sole prize is bragging rights. No physical prize will be sent out to the winner. What will I be voted on? You will be voted on what original functions of the model were kept, the top speed, acceleration, and originality. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rules The base rule for AMS: The model submitted must be a modification of a set released by Lego for their Technic theme. This includes any B- or C-models. No third-party or modified parts. We would like to equalize the field, and allow more people to have a fighting chance. Does that include Buwizz and Sbrick? Yes, it does. The majority of builders own at least one IR receiver. Sbricks and Buwizz don't have that kind of userbase. What parts can I use? You can use any parts from your collection, as long as they comply with the previous statements. Good building! Let's Build! Edited May 1, 2018 by letsbuild Quote
offroadcreations Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Awesome! I was wondering when this would pop up. Quote

mocbuild101 Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Cool, I've been thinking of building something like that (fast motorized car), so this is perfect! BTW, the rules probably should also state "no modified parts" - I have seen modified motors before... Quote

Marxpek Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Great idea, but is this contest allowed by the forum? I entered AMS-1 but... we all know what happened.. Quote

Yes, this contest is allowed. I believe I brought it up with Jim before I posted it last year. About the voting for last year, I unfortunately just never got around to doing it, which is going to change this year Edited May 1, 2018 by letsbuild Proofread, kids Quote

(you won't hear me complain if you keep them in ;D just keeping it fair and give the heads up ) Edited May 1, 2018 by Marxpek Quote

(rc unit and buggy motors) i guess i can power 6 L-motors with a rc unit.. and i am still using PF that way.. But thanks for letting them in! ;D Quote

Very much a WIP, the steering is still a mystery (to me..), but the pneumatic switch is remote controlled now... motor/ wheel placement still uncertain, but it is a start! Quote

Marxpek Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 12 hours ago, mocbuild101 said: Well it isn't exactly inside it.. you mean the sides sticking out? those are just the horizontal stabilizers of the submarine that Lego forgot to put on the original Steering is solved and integrated, it is not great but good enough for a dragster, it is almost done to be honest,, it can do wheelies when using the Unimog tires, just as i aimed for, while also being pretty fast with short indoor tests, my best guess is it will go about 17 km/h if it does not destroy itself, which probably is the more likely result. All the original functions have been saved, except for the manual pneumatic switch, that is now remote controlled. I am still considering to build in a compressor to feed the air tank, but then again: the air tank holds enough air to use the actuator a few times, so it would just be overly complex with not much added function maybe, but then again.. why not? any opinions? Another question: CLAAS wheels or Unimog wheels? It is kind of fun (and sort of difficult) to make good brick built connections and think in even numbers again opposed to the "new" uneven building system, nice flashback to get out of the comfort zone a bit :) More images soon! I'd say just use the airtank - how would you even power the compressor? Anyway, I've done a lot since I last posted, and I'm also just about finished, with only the drive-train left to assemble (it's got a few gears in it). As for what set it is, you'll have to wait and see... Quote
Marxpek Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Just now, mocbuild101 said: I'd say just use the airtank - how would you even power the compressor? add a M-motor and add it with the buggy motors wiring circuit, it will only run when driving. But I think i will stick with the regular pump. Still considering to use the Claas tires, the ground clearance is like 1 plate at the moment.. 1 minute ago, mocbuild101 said: As for what set it is, you'll have to wait and see... can't wait! Quote
Permo Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 I only have two sets.... not much choice here. But this afternoon I started coocking up something that might do the trick... Quote
sirslayer Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I'm also going to make a Dragster!!! hummmmm I hope this will work, its in WIP in the moment and only 1 XL motor!!! Quote
