Truckingyoda Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Hello everybody, I just had to post this because I was so excited. My family and I just finished sorting what we estimate to be around 600,000 bricks by color last night! We started in January when we purchased another collection and decided it was time to get everything in order. I have been spending 2-5 hours a night sorting parts out parts almost every single day. It was such a relief to finish the final bin of tiny parts last night. Now of course the urge to start sorting by style is taking hold...wish me luck. Quote
deraven Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Good luck! There are so many stages and philosophies when it comes to sorting. I skipped color myself and went straight to part type (which is even more tedious but has served me well so far), but getting "finished" with any stage feels great! Enjoy it... for as long as it lasts! Let me refer you to this post on good ol' Lugnet from 2001: https://news.lugnet.com/storage/?n=707 Happy building (and continued sorting)! Quote
Jody Meyer Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 Ahh the never ending job of sorting, there are so many topics on here it is crazy. Are you printing labels to match what you are sorting... www.brickarchitect.com has some great free labels Quote
Truckingyoda Posted April 5, 2018 Author Posted April 5, 2018 Thanks! I hadn't thought about labels yet but I will look into the ones you mentioned. Quote

Found it much faster to sort by part type/size and putting all the colors of the same part type together because picking out color is easy. But now that OP has done color might as well go to type as well and reach the holy grail of sorting; the full separation of part type and color. You'll probably need a few thousand of those little drawers. Edited April 6, 2018 by koalayummies Quote

Exactly! But sorting by color is much easier on the first pass and require far fewer individual sorting containers. Honestly, though, I think we all go through the phases at different times. Check out that old Lugnet post I noted above if you haven't seen The 27 Stages of Lego Sorting before. Quote
