When I was recently looking at pictures of tanks produced by different clone brands,I saw this:

bestlock.jpg

The first one is from the Korean clone brand Oxford, the second one is from Bestlock.

The design seems to be the same.

That is somehow disturbing. 8-|

Has anyone more examples of clone brands copying each other?

the only example i have encountered is that enlighten brick is stealing brickdesign from megabloks as well as lego.

oh well both brands are cheap(er) ways to set up an modern army.

must say that i prefare the tank of the bestlock, but the color of the minifigs in the oxford set.

Ahhh, clone brands are... Well, they seem to be copying each other, which means thet they are, yet again, copying someone else, but I still think that their just people who want a bit of money in a very bad way... A disrespectable way. I don't see why they want to copy each other, it makes little sence when they could make up imaginable sets like Lego does, at least then they would have a bit more respect...

Funny or sad? WQell I think it's just kind of odd, but then if they decide to copy each other in an endless cycle then maybe they'll forget about Lego for a while and fight with each other. Though does anyone know if the companies are connected?

well to be honest, Lego is, imo, not entirely innocent in this department either. Just the other day, i saw the mega blocks 'castle' assault weapon which came pretty close to Lego's set. I'm not so sure though that it was MB copying Lego and not the other way around...

I remember hearing that Cobi-Bestlock is actually partnered with Oxford now somehow, and part of the deal is Oxford letting Cobi-Bestlock to use some Oxford molds. That's why the minifig bodies are similar, as well as some parts. And that would also explain why the tanks are so similar. As far as I know, Oxford is sold exclusively in South Korea, so this joint effort is probably a way of getting a cut in the international market.

However, there are some Chinese brands out there that do counterfeit clone brands. Sluban comes to mind, as they reproduce a lot of the Oxford military sets. I know this because I thought I was ordering an Oxford tank off of e-bay and instead got a counterfeit piece of crap. The plastic was pretty brittle, and when I was trying to put on one treads an axle snapped on one of the wheels... But I have heard true Oxford sets are comparable to Lego in quality. I imagine they would also exceed the quality of Cobi-Bestlock sets.

Has anyone ever though that they might be part of the same evil mega-corporation...?

Hummm.. Yeah, maybe it is, but it seems that it is more realistic that it's a lot of small companies.

Yes, it might be so that Lego might do it too, but the other companies copied off Lego origonally, so it isn't so bad.

I've been warning of this for years...

Dr. S.

Thats why we have the EN! :-P

Basically here is the cloning scale:

Lego->Clone->Clone

Phase 1:It starts with the clone copying LEGO products

Phase 2: then producing their own line (in this case military)

Phase 3: which results in clone #2 doing the same by coping both LEGO products and the clone #1s own line

Its a never ending cycle basically X-D
