I give a Phoenix Incense to Karie, Vindsval, Lind, and Benji, and both a Phoenix Incense and a Phoenix Essence to Kiray and Throlar.

"Let's spread these out a little."

I hand Benji the Prophet Imperial's Armour.

"Sure, I'll take the Imperial prophets armour. Looks pretty nifty, where'd you get it from? You need or want anything in return?"

"I...well, it's not the happiest of tales. I don't like to think about it...and no, I don't need anything...Well, actually that Cape of Extravagance looks like it could be a useful addition to me, since you aren't wearing it anyway."

I give Benji any gems that are supposed to be in my inventory which he doesn't have.

"It's the end of the world if you want it to be, Lind, although if nothing we do is going to stop it, why are we here in the Faerie? Why risk so much if nothing we do will stop it?" Karie replied. She looked directly at Lind to make sure he was paying attention to what she had to say. "Food for thought."

Lind looked squarely back at Karie. "Because that's what heroes do."

(That's a mistake, WBD has accidentally listed several of Pretzel's gems in my inventory. I've informed him of the mistake but apparently he hasn't fixed it yet.)

"Pretzel, Kiray, and Lind, all of you have spare gems you cannot use. I suggest that you lend them to either myself or Benji. For reference the elements I currently have are water, ice, and darkness. Pretzel, you specifically have an Etherial Opal that I suggest you give to Benji, while he already has access to ice elemental magic your opal has an ability to make enemies fragile that only he can make use of."

"Either of you are welcome to my Ruby. And does anyone want more Remedies? That fight gave us quite a surplus..."

Karie gave Lind a gesture of dual finger pistols pointed at him, winking as she did so. "Right-A-Roonie, Lind!" Karie kept an eye out around her as she followed the fae through the fairy dust laden landscape towards the tower. The talk of dark druids and another archdemon had kept her alert.

"Am I the only one here with experience dealing with archdemons?"

(WBD, did we gain any experience from solving that puzzle earlier? I noted it in my stats as if I had because that's how you normally do it, but looking back I see you didn't make any mention of it nor did you change what you had written down for our stats. Also, I removed the Infernal Armor and my Weathered Shield so I shouldn't absorb fire and be immune to ice.)

"Err, no Pretzel, I can't equip more than three... which is the number I'm wearing right now. Also, that armor is strictly inferior to the Infernal Armor you already lent me and occupies the same space so I think I'll pass. However I believe you have some gems I could use with my Scroll of Elemental Aura."

"Thank you." said Throlar accepting the staff.

"Looks like you already have an emerald, Throlar," Kiray notes. "Anyone else wnt to use it? Skrall, do you mind if I borrow your bows? You can use stuff from me if you need."

She looks out at the distance. "That tower there, have you ever tried to get in? Do you have an idea of what we can expect? Besides Dark Druids, of course."

"Don't mind at all. You take care of 'em, I've had them nearly as long as I've been heroing." Skrall passes the two Mythril bows over to Kiray.

"I expect we'll find some of the druids' twisted creations, creatures of rot and decay. Couple of us have tried gettin' in before, haven't made it far though. Our strike in the next hour will be in concert with a couple other groups, so we may just stand a chance this time."

He addresses the fae nearest him.

Tell me winged one, my mother's people in the ice north have many tales of the fae and their interactions of the land of men.  Do any of your legends speak of the Giants of the Frozen Lands?

Rinti pauses for a moment before replying.

"Aye, there be tales of some of our kind striking up a kinship with the giants. Frost Fairies, we called them, never understood why they liked the cold so much as opposed to the tempered climate of the Faerie."

QM Note: Ah, the way I read the scroll, you need to have the actual gem in your inventory in order to cast the spell. I've fixed your inventory.

"Kind of hard to forget someone like her - whatever happened to her, anyway?

Well, it's not that bad a plan - even reminds me of a few I've come up with - except for the fact we're in the Fae. Kind of out the way for most people, even ones so determined as demon worshippers. Also, I'm not sure what good disguises will do most of us, unless you've been holding back a Trickster's Mask of the Demon Worshipper - it was in Eubric they were keeping an eye out for us, not here.

But I'm good with whatever." He nodded at the fairy. "I'm ready to head out, on your mark."

"I expect we'll find some of the druids' twisted creations, creatures of rot and decay. Couple of us have tried gettin' in before, haven't made it far though. Our strike in the next hour will be in concert with a couple other groups, so we may just stand a chance this time."

"Thanks, Skrall," LKiray says as she accepts the items "I'll take good care of them, promise. They're magnificent; how did you get these?"

She then turns to their companion. "Next hour? And you're just throwing us in there? I mean, at least you're giving us a little prep time but doesn't an assault or raid like this take a bit of planning, especially when you throw some people new to the plan into this?" With that, Kiray chugs a nostrum. "Well, if we're going to be suiicidal today, may as well make the best of it. I hope you know what you're doing."

"How did that work out for you? If you don't want to talk about it, it's fine...I understand. For the record, the demon we destroyed was the Archdemon of Wrath, Marilyth (Forgive me if that isn't spelled right). And yes, it was with one of those things. That chap Atramor just sucked that devil down after we battered him heavily. It was quite a sight!"

"I think the problem with Heroica was that it accepted just anyone. In the past, I thought it was a horrible thing, but really it seems that it may have been a good thing in some ways. Many people who started out with Heroica operating with selfish interests turned around and realized some form of humanity. Now of course, in times of crisis people begin thinking about why they joined Heroica and if they are really here with the same goals as others, but the fact is that, though we have made our mistakes, Heroica has been, overall, a force for good in the world, I believe, and that was even though it bore many 'Heroes' with a capital 'H' but not necessarily of a heroic nature. Nevertheless, Heroica did have a way of bringing out a heroic nature in people...most people at least, even some who never had it before... but maybe that is just the way I see it."

Did Benji give Pretzel the Cape of Extravagance?

Karie took in what the others had to say about Heroica, airing out their thoughts and grimaces, their hopes and ideals. Karie didn't respond to them directly, merely nodded her head crossed her arms. She thought on the words uttered to her by the others. What was worth saving in Heroica?

Karie snapped out of her self reflection as Monk Pretzel spoke to her. She looked to Pretzel, trying to catch up with what he said, only to burst out snickering.

"Looks like small miracles do exist. If memory serves me right, Marilyth was the archdemon we faced. He managed to get away, but it seems as if Atramor managed to finish the job.

The Academy of Enlightenment incident was a debacle and a half. Demons running roughshod through the school, students who were more concerned about their social image than their own life, it drives me up the wall just trying to remember everything that happened."

The motivations of the past matter little.  We know only now that we are here in this place at this time heading towards THAT tower to find a being a true power.  We all hope that that being will aid us.  It may be a thin hope but it one we must cling to.  Heroica was the first home I knew, but it won't be the last.  If I could return to it one day and it it once again risen to glory I would not regret the Path it took to get there.  Nor would I change the Path taken if I returned to find it burned to the ground and scattered to the wind.  None of us can deny for good or ill that it made us what we are today.  Let us use that force within us to face what we find, and do what we may to maintain the hero within each of us.

"Let us focus on what is ahead and not what lies behind us. If we live or die, it is little difference if we don't succeed in our mission of finding the Fay One. Let us stay alert and not become entranced of stories of the past."
