Trionx Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Quote -- Starting work this week on a story bible for a new LEGO line slated to come out in 2009. I can't say anything about it, unfortunately, but I would imagine set images, etc. will be public sometime in the fall. I am also working with the LEGO Concept Lab on some ideas for 2010 and beyond, which is a lot of fun. (If I had not had the Club meetings scheduled, I would have been in Canada meeting with CL this week.) This is from Greg Farshtey, this might've been posted before, if so, please close. :-) Quote
Asuka Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Hmm.... sounds pretty interesting for me and only a very little menacing, thanks for pointing it out. *y* Quote Que Sera, Sera,Whatever will be, will be.... Doris Day Quote
Athos Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Hmmmm... I don't know G.F., so I'm not sure how credible he would be. The statement is vague enough to provide us with essentially no information at all, except that Lego is planning some sort of product for 2009. Steve Quote
Pigbrick Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 (edited) Quote Hmmmm... I don't know G.F., so I'm not sure how credible he would be. Don't worry, he's credible. Greg is the editor for the club magazines and the story writer for the Bionicle stuff. Hmm, I wonder what the new stuff is. Maybe it's something that will be filling the void of Exo-Force. Brickmaster Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I hope it's not another bionicle :-$ I would adore a good system theme with a nice story or comic behind it though - That's what's been lacking in the Lego original themes lately it seems - Storyline. Although it does leave you to imagine your own, you can do that anyway by ignoring the original comic. Usually the storyline plots out the uses of sets, and solves what would be mysteries. Like in the mars mission theme, why on earth (no pun intended) would they capture aliens and put them in them tubes? Energy? Prison? What did they do! We're invading them! You get the idea :-$ Would like to hear more though, like the overall plot or theme, thanks for the heads up. Quote
Dadster Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 When I saw "story bible", my first thought was literally "Cool, Lego Camels" (the animals). :-D Quote

Derek Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Are they even allowed to do Bible-based products? Woudnt that be somewhat contriversial? 8-| Dp8 Quote
AgentRick Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) Hmm, this holds a lot of possibilities: Could it be a choose-your-adventure type story or a storybook thing. Very interesting... Also, It means a story bible, not the religous type of bible. Edited February 21, 2008 by AgentRick57 Quote

Hope that helps. On another note I hope it's a History line outlining great moments in history starting with the anchient civilizations and moving up a couple of centuries every couple of years or so and ending with the end of the 19th Century as not too get to controversial. But I know thats kind of a stretch. General Tarful Edited February 21, 2008 by GeneralTarful Quote
simonjedi Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Story_Bible Its basically a book that describes characters, backgrounds, technology locations e.c.t Quote On another note I hope it's a History line outlining great moments in history starting with the anchient civilizations and moving up a couple of centuries every couple of years or so and ending with the end of the 19th Century as not too get to controversial. Shadows Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I like my themes lacking in formal story and chock full of creativity. Well, I'll just hope the stories contain a lot of female minifigs and cool new parts... :-/ Quote

What about some kind of "Time Cruisers II - Save History" You would have a better looking time travel device, and have to stop some "bad guys", which also can travel in time, in different eras, before they change history. This would take us to different locations (ancient Rome, Greece, etc). We would get accurate buildings, and minifigs, and a story to combine them. (A mix of Doctor Who, Back to the future, and The Time Machine) But I don Quote

I've noticed LEGO never calls the Jellies "Martians" always "Aliens" Way I see it, during the Life on Mars theme, the human explorers made friends with the actual LEGO Martians, and in turn gained mineral rights to the energy crystals on Mars. Then, during the Mission to Mars mining project, they are attacked by hostile Aliens who desire the crystals as well. At least that's how it plays out in my head Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Tks for the news ;-) Well I really don't know if that is suppose to be a good sign or not !! Stories per se can be good: look at the castle line. Sure its a simple story of good vs evil factions but that works perfectly !! MM has a storyline as well and the sets are becomming better and better !! If the storyline includes named characters (like Alpha Team, KK and probably agents) that will suck big time IMO. I know what you will say here, so I'll state it to prevent confusion: in France pirates did not have names ;-) Now the question os what theme will it be. A new "historical" theme like pirates, romans, egyptians which clearly have some storyline latitude. But how will it coincide with Castle ? A new space theme ? I doubt they will redo a mech theme that close to unsucessfull EF. However they could do a city/space theme like space explorations which I love but would be too close to MM We know its not a new adventurer theme due to Indy. Can it be a new city theme ? A new underwater theme ? I doubt it also So whats left ? Really hard to say IMO I like some of your ideas but you are stretching a lot the term used "bible" !! It doesn't have any religious connotation IMO, its just a way to say the core of the storyline (and we all know TLC sucks with that !!) *yoda* Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Thank you for that news, Darth Bionics! I think that that new theme the excerpt is talking about hopefully will be no theme similar to Exo Force or Bionicle because I really hate these themes. And it would even make no sense to abandon Exo Force but releasing a new theme similar to Exo Force. I personally think that it will be something similar to the Orient Expedititon theme - with special central characters, little histories to each set - and it will be a new Adventure theme. I'd really like to see a new Wild West theme! Darth Bionics said: Another Ninja theme would be cool, (ninja Vs. robots? :-P ) Yes, a new Ninja theme would be cool, too - but not as combination with fantasy creatures or roborts! xwingyoda said: A new "historical" theme like pirates, romans, egyptians which clearly have some storyline latitude. But how will it coincide with Castle ? Although I'd like to see a new Ninja theme I personally think that the new theme will be no theme which has any similarities with Castle because if it would be similar to Castle TLC would concurate with itself. Consequenty I think Adventures - or hopefully Wild West - are the most supposable themes you can expect. I don't think that TLC would give pirates, egyptians or romans names and write a history about special central characters of them - but of course you can't know - everything is possible! Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 But Klaus, a new adventurer theme would be in direct opposition with Indy IMO ;-) I think WWW is possible even if I really want something else first. Now the question is will Greg know how to design something not like Bionicle... *yoda* Quote
Johnny 5 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 A new take on pirates maybe? I personally would be on board with a historical theme, that one would have pontential for alot of years worth of sets. Quote
Athos Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I bet its a Pirate theme. Though I have nothing to base that on, beyond the notion that a story-bible would fit with that theme. Steve Quote

I so wish you're right ;-) But like I said previously, how would 2 army building themes coincide together ? (I'm leaving licenses out of this discussion on purpose). I know it did in the past, but how long has it been that a line was in direct opposition in terms of sales with castle ? *yoda* Quote
