Darnok Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Since the parts for my Oktoberfest builds finally arrived today, I have been busy and nonstop building for hours - but now I need a break. While waiting for my order over the weekend I built the following small sugarcane plantation yesterday. Among other parts: 100 jumper plates, over 100 sand-green flowerstems, over 200 green flowerstems and over 300 icecream cones! No LDD in this one, all physical and hand-built. Yes, I was kind of bored... =========================================================================================================== "Good evening you two, how is the work going along?" Susan Cole came to pick off her husband Markus from work at the small plantation one of the local tribes had set up close to Elizabethville. Markus was still busy harvesting sugarcane together with one of the natives. "It is hard work, but somebody has to do it. I would prefer to work in our new garden, but for now that would not fill our stomachs. Since your saddlery is still under construction, for the time being this job is as good as any - with the added benefit of me getting to know some of the natives as well as their local plants." "Be patient, the construction work is almost finished, and I will be in business soon. Most of the natives are quite obsessed with their horses, I wonder how they will react to what I have to offer. Maybe your new relations here can help with that." "I will ask around when I get the chance. Have you seen Marie though? Last time I saw her she was playing with one of the natives kids. A plantation is not the worst playground, but I really want to get home now..." Spoiler =========================================================================================================== This will be licensed as a small plantation in Elizabethville. And now back to those Oktoberfest projects - they will be done in time! Quote
SilentWolf Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 I like how you have taken another approach to sugar cane plants instead of duplicating the previous ideas. That said, the jury is still out on what I think of the ice cream cone usage as the cannonballs seemed more what I would expect of sugar cane. However, I do really like the mixed colors you used for the top of the canes to blend the colors together. I like the storyline and the minifigure posing and the usage of the new machete. Quote

The whole City Jungle line has interesting bits to offer - the two big cats being the most prominent in my opinion - but the machete has so many more uses. Especially for BotBS. I love it! Concerning the "cannonball vs. icecone" thingy: both are fine and work for the look of sugarcane in my opinion. The cannonball is maybe a bit too massive for the really thin sugarcane stems, while the icecone gives this "bamboo impression" that is a bit inappropriate. Still, I like the icecone a little bit more, and my local PaB wall had them available, so... yeah. I have about 500 of them by my estimate, and will use them for all kinds of "jungle builds" in the future. Maybe some actual bamboo plantation as well. What conditions does that need? Wikipedia, here I come... Edited October 31, 2017 by Drunknok Quote
Bodi Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 That's a lot of icecream cones! I like the brown plates used as soil. Quote
