SirNadroj Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Hey! Here is the BF entry I've been working on. Let me start off by saying that I was originally going to build a reagular, broken down cathederal with a monster, yada, yada. After browsing through some caterderal pics online, I stumbled on St. Basil's Basilica. I hadn't thought of that, and I figured the colour contrast between the colourful, onion domes vs. the black creature would look kind cool. So I chose to make a bombed-out Basilica, based on that one. The first creature design I was going to choose would have been a bio-mechanical double-headed eagle, with claws, or something like that. (Russian coat-of-arms) But after playing with some inside out tires, I just kept building 'til I came up with what I have here. But I still wanted to give it a bird-like feature, so notice the toes. Just like a parrot's! :-) [sizes, anyway] This is called the Wretched Egg, because, well, I'm not sure. It reminded me of a bird hatching, and just the feet sticking out of the egg while I was cleaning up the pics of photoshop. If that makes sense. ;-) The diorama, again, features a blasted-out cathederal/basilica based on St. Basil's. Notice the fire ~ I added a motor to make the flames look as if they were dancing, and a light, to make it look like 'real' fire. Hard to tell in the pics, but it gives the allusion that the burnt-out tower is on fire. Well, maybe not THAT convinicing, but you the the point. ;-) Thrown onion-dome, right into the ground! Fire Russian Figure Little Claws: Some pics seperately (really delicate ;-) ) Well, that's that! Feedback is really appreciated, I'm interested as to what you think! :-) Quote
Username_Taken Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) i like it sirNadroj! I like the use of the tires as a body, and the cathedral looks awesome! U_T Edited February 14, 2008 by Username_Taken Quote
Lt. Veers Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Great! It's kinda creepy (in a good way). Quote
Starwars4J Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Nice job on the monster, it really has that biological look with the tires. I do, however, wish more time was spent on the cathedral. I know it's not technically a part of the contest, but it does sort've set the tone for the MOC :-P It just looks thrown together. If you turned it all upside-down, would it stay together? Also it gets that feeling since it doesn't look realistically destroyed. Where are exposed support infrastructure? Even just broken pillars? Things like that, it currently looks like you had a neat little cathedral and let a 4-year-old run over it a few times :-D Great work on the monster though. The eyes are great. Quote

To be frank, I actually spent more time of the cathederal than the monster. :-D It only looks thrown together because it's been destroyed by the creature. There are broken pillars, two of them to be exact! :-P X-D Thanks! I was actually gonna use Barraki squid as eyes, to make them look as if they were 'popping' out of the monster's head, but I went with zamor spheres instead. Who knew these stupid bioincle pieces would actually be practical in a MOC!? X-D Quote
