Need help (easy) - Rotate 2 axles in opposite direction 12 Studs apart

I don't build with technic often so aren't familiar with the available parts to solve my issue. Right now when I rotate the gears the Leftmost and rightmost gears rotate in the same direction. This is because I have an odd number of gears. I want the two outer axles to rotate in the opposite direction. 

I also tried to put an axle 90 degrees out (see second picture) which gets the 2 outer axles rotating in the opposite direction,  but I can't figure out the correct elements required so my pins aren't hanging half out.  

Some beginner assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Awesome. Thank you for all your suggestions! I thought I had remembered there being a bracket the held the 90 degree gear mesh, I just wasn't cluing in that it would space the one gear away from the beam. I'm pretty sure I have some kicking around if not I'll steal some from a set in storage.
