Hello everyone, I'm not 100% sure where to put it, but hopefully it will be moved if incorrectly placed. You may have already noticed the petition in my signature but I have today decided to create a topic for it :classic:

I started a petition on change.org petitioning the LEGO Group to stop putting stud shooters as guns in LEGO Star Wars sets. I did not think much of it at first but now it has over 260 supporters, which is more than the #SameBatTimeAusNZ petition on change.org as well.

Quote

Stud shooters: Yes, they might increase play value, but they are fat and do not resemble Star Wars blasters. Also, it is troublesome to look for the studs after they get shot off to who-knows-where.

LEGO, please stop putting stud shooters as guns in Star Wars sets. As cannons they are ok, but not as minifigure blasters.

Sure, LEGO, perhaps you want to keep using stud shooters as minifigure blasters. Ok then. But please don't put them in battle packs!  Battle packs are meant to be bought multiples of, and adult fans have to bricklink pricey replacement blasters for the figures. You could put the stud shooters in microfighters, as microfighters already look funny, so why not put stud shooters there?

Sign this petition to make a statement as the LEGO fan community!

You can sign the petition here (if you haven't already ): https://www.change.org/p/lego-stop-putting-stud-shooters-as-guns-in-lego-star-wars

Thanks for your votes, hopefully LEGO will take action!

Stud shooters are great for kids, but blasters are more realistic* (make that completely realistic!)*. But as long as Lego doesn't discontinue the blaster molds and keeps using blasters in sets, it's okay.

Stud shooters are more fun to shoot at "targets" than going pew pew with blasters.  PAB Wall can supply extra ammo...

Have you ever stepped on one after you shot it and lost it?

I just sent in a review to Lego regarding one of the battle packs and pretty much cited the blaster stud shooters as the only negative in the set.  Perhaps if Lego put in both stud shooters and the realistic blasters, there could be a happy medium?  That would mean including only four more parts--does not seem like too much to ask.

Yes, this alternative has been suggested by JANGBRiCKS before (and others). I would be very satisfied with it, plus LEGO would still be able to use stud shooters.

Though stud shooters do bump up the amount of parts in the set, but that's a smaller complaint.

One stud-shooter is at least 4 parts, one normal blaster only 1. In a stud-shooter you have the the shooter, the trigger and at least 2 pieces of ammo. Much more parts to make something look much uglier.

I signed the petition. Hopefully LEGO will do something about it!

From my AFOL perspective I don't like the stud shooters. They are disproportionally large and chunky, and just look not great.

Knowing though that AFOLs are not Legos target customer group, I am fine that sets come with them, if the kids like them better. After all, they are the people who keep the brand alive, because they are the ones by far the majority of sets goes to.

Maybe a mix of both would be a solution. Equipping only half of the minifigs with stud shooters, or something like that. That still means a lot of potential for action.

I doubt though that we will see fewer of them in future. At least not in smaller sets with no larger shooting option available.

As an old-time Lego Star Wars fan the stud-shooters don't really bother me—truth be told, I was actually a little more put-out when they STARTED using the more realistic blaster molds instead of the (admittedly rather poor in hindsight) megaphone+cone blasters.

Stud shooters are an easy and cheap way to add playability to a set, especially a small one like a battle pack that doesn't have as much room for more complex play features. I doubt a petition would have any effect, since even if the response were great it'd most likely only capture the opinion of older Lego fans—not the much larger demographic of child fans, who are likely the main reason stud shooters are included in the first place.

LOL!  Thinking about the megaphone blasters makes me nostalgic.

Unfortunately like in most cases, what kids want is what kids get. So our best bet would be for Lego to add regular blasters into the sets along with the stud shooters. Take a set like this for example.

Four extra parts? No biggie right?

Personally I see the stud shooters as not just a gimmick, but as a way to drive up the piece count of a set to justify higher prices. Four stud shooters in a battle pack contain about 18 parts total (Two per shooter, ten ammo) while the previous guns only amounted to four.

In my opinion Lego is using these extra parts from stud shooters, combined with a few other unnecessary and tiny pieces, to raise piece counts in battle packs by about 20 and therefore raise the price from $12.99 to $14.99. It's a smart strategy for them, but an annoyance to us.
