2017 has been a great year for Lego fans - many great sets so far, and of course, many more to come! I thought it would interesting to see what everyone's favorite sets have been so far this year now that we are halfway done...and what they predict will be their top ones by the END of the year. Your favorites can be from any line, any theme, any size (even a CMF), just for fun. So here is my list so far and will that be the same for the end of the year? Undoubtedly no! Your favorites so far include only ones released up till June 30th, whether you own them or not...and predictions for the end of the year include ones that will be, or rumored to be ;) released before Dec. 31st...

My top 5 halfway through 2017:

1. Saturn V

2. Assembly Square

3. Carousel

4. UCS Snowspeeder

5. SW Bounty Hunters battle pack

By the end of this year top 5:

1. UCS Millenium Falcon

2. Ninjago City Set

3. Saturn V

4. Assembly Square

5. Old Fishing Store

Fantastic year, and a bit pricey! But certainly a great one...

I can't disagree with this. My sets would be almost the same, but I would have the 42070 6x6 Tow Truck replacing assembly square, because it looks awesome :)

This list might seem strange but here goes:

1: Pizza Van

2: CMF Series 17 Veterinarian

3: CMF Series 17 Gourmet Chef even though I don't like pie

4: Star Wars Y Wing even though its already disassembled for parts

5: Saturn V (don't own otherwise it'd probably be #1)

End of year:

1: Ninjago City (if its as enjoyable as it looks)

2: Pizza Van

3: Old Fishing store

4: CMF Veterinarian

5: 42064 Ocean Explorer if its ever going to be available in North America? No? Ok then no fifth rank.

By the end of the year... well, I can't reveal that just yet. But I bet Ninjago City will be up there.

I haven't been too excited by much this year - I'm more into Pirates and Castle than modular buildings or Apollo spaceships.

I have the Joker's Lowrider which is a nice set. I've bought Vader's Transformation but still have to get around to building it. Hoping for some decent Episode VII sets and a couple of the Ninjago Movie sets look ok but otherwise pretty disappointed so far.

In retrospect, there are five themes which had sets that stood out from the rest and caught my attention, which included...

  1. The Lego Batman Movie, which had some amazing flagship Bat-vehicles, particularly the Batmobile, the Batwing, and the most novel Scuttler mech. I also can't applaud Lego enough for incorporating Trans-yellow into many of the Bat-vehicles' color schemes, giving us some awesome recolored canopies in the process. Also, the wild, Decopunk-esq aesthetic of Penguin's Arctic Roller deserves a mention here.
  2. The Lego Ninjago Movie, which gave us its extraordinary, cinematic rendition of the Destiny's Bounty and the unexpected, Cyberpunk-like Ninjago City D2C. Though they may have been scaled down from their cinematic counterparts, many of the theme's other sets were excellent, particularly Kai's Mech.
  3. Creator, specifically in the case of its flagship, three-in-one 31070 Turbo Track Racer. Not only is the main build good looking, it even incorporates some great, hidden mechanical ingenuity. Also deserving special mention, 31059 Sunset Street Bike gave us that Nexo Knights windshield in Trans-Black for the first time; and 31062 Robo Explorer and 31066 Space Shuttle Explorer are the theme's first ventures into space, which could be promising for its future.
  4. Ideas, specifically the 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V, with its extraordinary internal construction, and the 21310 Old Fishing Store, probably 2017's most beautiful set.
  5. If I had to single out one particular standout CMF for each Collectable Minifigure Series introduced for this year, it would probably be Vacation Batman for TLBM series, you-know-who for Series 17 (), and N-POP Girl for TLNM series.
