I am currently working on the 8258. It is a fantastic set! I am enjoying it more now than I did back in 2009-2010 when I built it the first time (maybe because I have built more sets).

Anyway, the gearbox and functions are great, but, I like the way the gearbox on the 42042 functions better, where one control controls both directions of a function. I am not a fan of the change directions by changing the electrics, it just makes more sense (to me) to use the same control for both directions of the function.

So is am thinking maybe I can redesign / rebuild the gearbox so that each of the 4 functions are controlled by individual great trains and eliminate the  power reverser switch.

I was also thinking that (if one exists) that a gearbox / mechanical functions schematic / render would help me to see what is going on with the gearbox and mechanicals. Not a requirement for me just handy.

So does anyone know if a schematic for the 8258 functions exist?

Thanks so much

Thanks for the links! I downloaded the LXF files to examine.  Just thinking, what is the best way to isolate the gear box and associated linkage?

I am thinking just start deleting until al is gone except the gearbox and things attached to it.

I am not very experienced in LDD, is there a better way that I should consider?

Thanks again,

@Andy D I'm not an expert on it either, I usually delete stuff until the desired parts are left.  You can hide it, too, but I think it reappears when you open up the file again.
