Batbrick Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 with all this great stuff for the castle line, i was thinking perhaps they have too much of a good thing? at first i was going to buy lots of battle pack, but after seeing the chess set decided against it now. if there's more good sets with lots of mfs, i might not get the chess even. :-P what i am driving at is that everyone (incl afols) have limited budget and money. by making too many good sets, i am afraid that some of the good ones will not sell well. not because of the design but more because people can only afford so many. I agree, some lego lovers have loads of money to spend on these sets, but people like me cannot even hope to get all this. No doubt, as much as I want it, the chess set will escape me. As much as 2008 is shaping up to be the best year of lego ever, I think sometimes perhaps we're being a bit spoiled. I want to see a lot of great sets, but that doesn't mean they have to come every year. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
blueandwhite Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Amen! Although the civilians should be in a seperate pack, likewise:Royalty Minifigure Pack: King Queen Princess Prince Jester Townfolk Minifigure Pack: Man Woman Boy Girl Hunchback(If anyone has anything better to offer, I'm taking all comers ;-) X-D ) As much as I love this idea, I think that it's expecting a bit much. If we could get all of those figures in minifig packs, would nearly as many people buy the advant calender or the larger sets? I can honestly say that I wouldn't. One tradition I don't see LEGO abandoning is the inclusion of special minifig varriants in more expensive sets. Even in the days of classic castle, we weren't accustomed to seeing special figs in the minifig packs. The knights and soldiers we got were ones that could be had with most small ticket sets. If you wanted a King with a cape, white dragon plumes or any other special fig, you had to shell out for the respective set. Looking at these battle packs it is painfully obvious that the figures being offered also happen to be incredibly common. This is no different than packs like 6102 or 6103 which offered forestmen falcons, lions and one peasant. While this looks amazing today, remember that these guys were littered throughout most sets during the time. When I was younger, I wasn't worried about the possibility that these guys might not be around forever. The battle packs are fantastic army builders, but they are also incredibly common figs for this line. Almost every other set has one of those knights. Quote
canadianD Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 not to fond of the packaging |-/ wierd idea and it looks likes like your selling action figures :-/ Quote
Tanotrooper Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 not to fond of the packaging |-/ wierd idea and it looks likes like your selling action figures :-/ It gives a cheaper look to me. I don't like it. TT Quote
iamded Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 It gives a cheaper look to me. I don't like it.TT It makes it more protected, and you can see all you get in the brick. That's a good thing for me, because sometimes you'll buy a set, only to find it's been opened already with bags stolen. Or you'll see a box on the shelf torn open with bags missing. This way it's harder to open and you can see all the pieces. ~Peace Quote
RememberTheLittleGuy Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Cool. Where's the item number? Quote
Dadster Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 ...it looks likes like your selling action figures :-/ Well, they are kinda like action figs. Lego Minifig + Action = Miniactionfigs!! :-P I like the idea of Battle Packs and look forward to other variations as mentioned previously...too bad I already have a boatload of the Crown Knights. ;-) Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 So they can do this with Castle, but not with Star Wars? |-/ I'd rather not have those crappy vehicles... Anyways, these look pretty nifty (nonetheless awesome). They seem to promise a lot of fighting between Lego men... X-D ~Air Spirit Quote
rupi Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 This is incredible (by todays standards). Lego did sell minifig sets back in the past, so this isn't original but is very good to see that they are listening to people desires again. The plastic package option looks strange to me. I mean they give us crappy boxes in the big expensive sets and now they make expensive (and enviromental unfriendly) packaging in the cheap sets :-| (The SW minifig packs are diferent they have to include the crappy veichles because of the license, I think) Quote

Medievalego Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 wonder how TLC will price the BP set given that the chess set is $40. 24 for $40 (originally $50). I am guessing 5 MF for $12 max. anything more than $12 is probably overkill. would be sweet if it is 5 MF for $10. 20 for $40. woot. natelite, I totally agree with your pricing deduction ... $10 would be fantastic, but $12 seems about the max they could charge ... especially considering the price of the Castle Tic Tac Toes @ $15 for 10 MFs. However, these do look very fake. I just don't understand why they would possibly switch up the packaging like this. I mean this is what Muscle Men and Army Ants and all the other stupid little figures come (came) in, LEGO is unique and its packaging is a distinct part of its branding. Or so I thought :) Still, would be very cool if this were real ... and who knows, maybe it's some early prototype packaging just to demonstrate what's included ... *wishful thinking* I fear. ~ Me ~ Quote

I asume it's so people can see the minifigs, in recent years there seems to be more and more effort in trying to show what the figures are like, if you look at the sides they now have scale pictures to give people a better ideaa what they're getting. Also I asume that it would look much worse for a big box to be opened and then find 5 little people in it, and as the boxes keep getting bigger they've had to find a diffrent way. Quote

LOL, that's how it used to be ... not a big box, but still. Um, and regardless of packaging, the return of true minifig packs to the Castle line is very welcome. But seriously, what ever happened to these? ~ M ~ Quote

Batbrick Away! >:-) Yeah, I'm serious. This will be nice if it's real, don't get me wrong. But, they haven't really been doing minifig packs in a long time. RECENT changes have been nice ... the TIC TAC TOEs, Star Wars Army Builders, Chess Sets, and others, but how about a Troll/Goblin/Dwarf minifig pack with just minifigs? When that happens, I will be satisfied. ~ M ~ Quote

Either way, I want a troll/dwarf one too. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Either way, I want a troll/dwarf one too. I'll assume they'll come out once the dwarf/orc wave of sets has finished, much like the first wave. They're probably doing that so that we have to buy the proper sets, unless we want to wait another 5 months or so for the battle packs :-/ Quote

iamded Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 But seriously, what ever happened to these? They were improved upon, and made to a more profitable set that fits in with the current Castle line. :-) Seriously, I love them. They're fantastic, I nearly had a heart-attack of joy when I first saw them. I couldn't believe my eyes. Apparently some one got them from Legoland, but I hope they'll be available form normal stores or even as a Toys'R'Us (or in NZ, Toyworld) exclusive, as there's no Legoland here in New Zealand! :'-( ~Peace Quote
kill will Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Sweet sets *y* I was wondering about this "Jester" fig in the advent calender. Which year is that from? Anyways, *sweet* BPs Make stupid happy :'-) Quote

Brainbox Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I was wondering about this "Jester" fig in the advent calender. Which year is that from? Which year is the Advent Calendar from? This year, it's due out around September I think. As for the new Battle Packs, I like them. As long as they're not too expensive (and available here) then great. I mean 5 figs each? And relatively decent figs at that. Being a return to the Castle of old, there's also the nostalgia element. It's nice to see an updated version though. Quote

If you want the jester hat, get it during the summer, with new wave of the amazingly hot BATMAN product line *y* No that I've filled in my advertising quota for the day, let me say that those pack look pretty awesome, now we can have massive quantities of reapers, commanders, generals and soldiers, and of course, Black Widows, which are just so rare :-| Quote
Mile85 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Is it just me, but are people concentrating too much for their armies, instead of the layout, buildings etc? I don't see much of a point, looking at 100 skellies on my table.. I'm just wondering.. Quote
