I have some ideas for a screenplay floating around in my head for years now, and finally I've decided to write a few of these out.

NB: This thread is different to the other one. This is intended for a fictional story, the other is intended for factual information.

Now I'm not going to reveal what the story is about, or where its set or what's going on, but I want share a prologue. Its vague. It doesn't tell much. No other details will be given that this stage. However, I want an external perspective from people outside my area and find out how they interperate and precieve what I've written...

So here it is

(note the text indenting has been lost upon copy & post is everything is flushed the left)

EXT. FOREST CLEARING

From the mention of kangaroos I put this in Aussie... and therefore think your striped thingy is one of the tiger striped wild dog things that went extinct down there...

Otherwise good :-D

God Bless,

Nathan

who is all ready regretting the use of various forms of the word 'thingy'...

I like to use "thingy" too.

Yes, you are indeed spot on Mr Norro. It doesn't say on your profile, but do you care to mention what part of the world you're from?

I'm one of the roving Irish... so I have spent time in many places...

And if it wasn't for your ancestors I wouldn't be existing in this part of the world... Oh wait... That's my ancestors too...

Forgot to add above that the screenplay itself is pretty good. How will you expand it plot wise? What got you interested in the dog thingy? Do you use 'thingy' as much as I do? And where is 'in this part of the world'.

God Bless,

Nathan (who now has added to his profile....)

I haven't done any screen writing in about 6 years. Unfortunately my mentor became sucessful and did not complete my training so I kinda let it go for a while.

I'm not sure how much you use "thingy" but that's the name my nephew is affectionately referred to by. Its an abbreivation for "darling thing" apparently. But I call him "Mr Thing" now. Anyways...

The thylacine, aka the Tasmanian Tiger which is actually a marsupial wolf reportedly became instinct in 1936. However, many unconfirmed sightings of the besaties have been reported for decades and many speculate whether the it actually extinct. Despite being a small land mass (geographically speaking) it has a large region of unexplored forest where anything could lurk... So who knows for sure... Maybe Thylacines do exist in this vast unexplored wilderness and occassionally one finds its way closer to civilisation. Having lived on said island all my life its common knowlegde here that its possibile that Tasmanian Tiger isn't actually extinct, but nobody has been able to provide substantial evidence that it's not.

I first became interested in the subject in school (about grade 3 I think) when I read a childrens book called "The Great Tasmanian Tiger Hunt" by Michael Salmon. The story featured the escapades of Colonel Horsfield-Smythe who believed if the Tasmania Tiger existed he would catch it. So the Colonel and his helpers carry out a series of escapades attempting to catch the Tiger. However, each attempt is unsucessful and a different species of animal manages to foil the plan each time. All the while the Tiger is whitnessing their antics and laughing at them from a distance.

More recently in Australia some publicity company (can't recall which one) offered a reward of about A$4,000,000 (roughly US$3 million) if someone could capture or take photographys of the thylacine. However, nothing ever came of it. Disappeared from the news completely.

So now my imagination kicks in... What if someone actually did attempt to capture or photograph one? Entering inhospitable wilderness in search of a creature whose existence is now mythical should make a very interesting adventure story....

You're from Oz?! Sweet as... I've been through a few times... I remember watching a doco about the thylacine when I was living in Canada (and as I lived in the middle of no-where where just about anything could be lurking) thought something like that could easily still be around...

You have other screenplays?

As always: God Bless,

Nathan

wow, uh... what...

WEIRD............

Unfortunately its not weird...

Humans caused this creature to become extinct because they thought it was a pest. So they killed it off. But did they kill all of them? That is yet to be confirmed...

Yes... I'm from Oz...

I don't remember what I did with my previous work. Hopefully its dead and buried! It was pretty bad. I've been waiting the past 6 years to mature my story telling ideas, so the output should be a lot more intelligible now. I hope!

I have written another scene to this particular story. I'll post in some time in the future after I've proof read and done some tweaking to it.

Nope. This particular scene is set elsewhere, but is necessary for creating a motivation for the characters to want to hunt the Thylacine. In the beginning there's going to be scenes from a variety of locations necessary to establish certain characters. Eventually most of them end up in Tasmania to hunt the thylacine of course!

Compliments are much appreciated, but cricitcism is also accepted and might be useful for improving the story.

Not that there is much at the moment. I must get round to proof reading and posting that next scene soon.

Ok, its time for another scene...

Chronologically it's not the next scene, but it's an important scene that establishes the characters motivation behind searching for the allusive Tasmanian Tiger. However, only one party is doing it for the reward, the other party is trying to stop them.

I'm not particularly good at naming characters and I'm not sure how appropriate the names I've chosen for these characters are. Also I'm concerned that the news dialogue doesn't work as well as it could. Next time I see something similar on the news I'll have a reference to apply to the one in this scene. But till such a time the one I've got will have to do.
