Piranha Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Well I thought I would try my hand a Steampunk MOCing, which is basically fantasy style involving steam use with elements of the past and future. Recently over on the FBTB they had a contest entitled "Steam Wars" where you build an iconic vehicle from the SW Saga. I picked the X-wing since it is a beautiful ship and I enjoyed building it :-) It took me about 3+ hours and in the end I couldn't get R2 to fit right, and the use of Bley, Grey, Rewn and Brown :-P So Piranha Advancements proudly present: X-wing Steampunked! The standard overall view A head-on view The pilot cockpit area another view The rear view*note the boiler connected to the engine propellers Final view, wings closed I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :-D Feedback and Constructive Criticism welcome ;-) P Quote
ExoBuilder Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I enjoy it! The overall steampunkness of it all makes me feel good! :-D There's not much I don't like about this except I think it's a little skinny, it needs some beefing up! *sing* *y* *sweet* *y* Quote
darkrebellion Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Oh its so cool. I like it *wub* . and you choice a iconic ship the great X-wing. The engines are very well constructed. Quote
Batbrick Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 This is very good Piranha, I love the location of the propellers and the boilers *y* My one gripe is that R2D2 can't fit in, and the lasers on the wings, I think should be replaced by something more "steampunky". Apart from that this is great, you've done an excellent job with this. Batbrick Something! *wacko* Quote

There's not much I don't like about this except I think it's a little skinny, it needs some beefing up! Thanks EB! Yes I didn't realize this until I finished, I wanted the front to be narrow, but the rear needs some bricks :-D Oh its so cool. I like it *wub* and you choice a iconic ship the great X-wing. The engines are very well constructed. Thanks Very much Darkrebellion! :'-) I have seen the MF and TIE, done so the logical choice was the X-wing This is very good Piranha, I love the location of the propellers and the boilers My one gripe is that R2D2 can't fit in, and the lasers on the wings, I think should be replaced by something more "steampunky". Apart from that this is great, you've done an excellent job with this. Batbrick Something! Thank you Batbrick, I plan to modify later, I definitely will make room for R2 this time X-D As for the lasers, I have no excuse! Any ideas? Steam ON! P Quote

Piranha Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Hmm, not sure, maybe an old fashioned cannon or gatling gun?Batbrick Something! *wacko* You have given me an idea *y* :-D I now know how to make the weapons more steampunky I'll post some pics when I get it finished *sweet* P Quote
Asuka Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 A very nice and charming work, especially with these four propellers! *y* And well, for the astromech droid, how should a R2 unit look in the age of steam-punk? And, ahem, astro...? :-P As for the lasers, I have no excuse! Any ideas? Automatic repeating crossbows...? X-D Quote
Brainbox Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Very nice Piranha, successfuly melding the two (very different) subjects of steampunk and Star Wars. In fact, with all the Steam Wars MOCs cropping up, I'm almost inspired to try my own. Hmm, not sure, maybe an old fashioned cannon or gatling gun? You know, that's exactly what I was thinking. And well, for the astromech droid, how should a R2 unit look in the age of steam-punk? Well, actually, the astromech is already shaped a bit like a boiler, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to turn it into some sort of steam-droid (sorry, I couldn't think of a pun). Just change the colour(s), maybe make it a bit higher, add an exhaust, there you have it. Quote

Thanks Asuka *sweet* I have seen the use of a trash can for R2, but I don't want to steal that idea :-D Crossbows are better for Dark Age :-D I'm thinking of cannons Very nice Piranha, successfuly melding the two (very different) subjects of steampunk and Star Wars. The boiler for an astromech is a good idea! *y* I'm glad you have been inspired, after seeing all the Steam wars creations I couldn't resist trying it for myself P Edited February 1, 2008 by Piranha Quote
Hewman Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 (edited) Nice! What would be nice was if there was more lego available in brassy gold colours to add to steam punk creations. The engines look brilliant, definitely see them working as propulsion in steam punk. Are the white round bricks the steam? Anyway well done and I'd love to see more steam punk from you.
