Good old Lego builder Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) Hi all. My son and I have been building with my old technic bricks. Now I was thinking: I do have a 12v motor. And some old pneumatic parts, of the first series around 1984 i guess. Is it possible to motorize the pump with the 12v motor. More specific: I fear the pump would be to 'stiff' to move with the spring. Any ideas? (I thought I had once seen in in a Technic ideabook from those years, but could not find that.) Aventador2004 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 what battery would you use for a 12 volt? a train controller. i own one 9v and it has a lot of power Quote
VKTechnic Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 To counteract the force of the spring, you could horizontally oppose two pumps (saw someone do this before). Otherwise removing the spring is a always an option.... Quote
Good old Lego builder Posted April 4, 2017 Author Posted April 4, 2017 Aventador, indeed I use the 12v train controller. Quote
Milan Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 There are people on YT using XL motors to power Large Pneumatic Pump(s). So just for the show, here are two videos of that: And: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEz8JNT0ugU This is one XL powering one Large pneumatic pump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKxkjBwsTec I guess with proper gearing, you can make this also with 12V motor and 1 pump. It is in the building instructions of the Excavator 8851. Unfortunately on all the sites where you can find the building instructions (I tried 3 via Brickset.com), the instruction on how to build in the motor is not shown. In my book it starts just behind the instructions of the B-model starting at page 26 until 30. I do not know if the motor is strong enough. In case you don't have the book of 8851 here are the instructions: 8851_page_26 by mike verstappen, on Flickr 8851_page_27 by mike verstappen, on Flickr 8851_page_28 by mike verstappen, on Flickr 8851_page_29 by mike verstappen, on Flickr Quote
