Gunman Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Hey there guys... Follow up is a review from a retired but really great Star Wars set, 75052 Mos Eisley Cantina Our attention while looking at the box design, is instantly caught by the "little" Dino-fella over there named "Dewback" LEGO Site Description: Quote Quote Welcome to the noisy and dangerous Mos Eisley Cantina™ on the desert world of Tatooine! Park the landspeeder and enter, staying clear of the giant dewback drinking from the trough outside. At the back side of the box we can see the play functions of the set.We can see that there are only a few moving parts/functions but there are a lot of minifigures to play with, instead. The number of the minifigures is increased to 8 vs the older version that had 5. (3 musicians minifigures added) At the side of the box, we can see all the minifigures included in the set. (eight minifigures) Opp.... I think we have seen that guy before... Is anybody hereeee.... ereeee.... ereeeee The contents of the Set: -Five Bags with Parts -Two Instructions Booklets -Stickers (I really dislike stickers and I wished those were printed tiles instead...) -Dewback Our Huge Dino-fella xD, this creature is enormous and really funny to use in MOCs, it is the main reason I bought this set as I have already said. Let's start with the instructions... (on the first spread we can see the brick separator instructions and the Final Sub Pieces of the set from each Numbered Bag) At the end of the Instructions, we can see all the Star Wars minifigures from the year this Set was relesead (2014) At the back side of the instructions, we can see a feedback survey link, in order to give our feedback to LEGO regarding our recent purchase. At the second Instructions Booklet: Towards the end of it... finishing the Set We can also see here, all the parts included in the Set At the backside, there is an advertisement for the LEGO Club Magazine All minifigures included in the Set, by order (Bith Musician x 3,, Luke Skywalker, Stormtrooper, Obi Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Greedo) I really like musicians' headpieces... they are pretty funny and great use for weird custom minifigures. The camo trooper is also a great figure and we can acquire him only from this set. Front View: Back View: Rambi on Dewback's back... Hurrraaaayyyyy! Hopefully tallie came for help... Contents of the first Bag: (the main colors here are flesh, light bluish and dark red) Interesting Pieces (Windscreen is a really awesome part as its not really big, making it really useful for mocs. Also Skywalker's hairpiece is great too!) Hey this mini space-ship has cool colors... oooOOOOooOOoooo Here comes the windshield... The first Part is ready! The turbines going along with the main body of the aircraft look really badass Here dogies.... Contents of the Second Bag (We start on the main buildings at this step, thats why the colors dominating here are tan and dark Interesting Pieces (fancy-colored round tiles and some really useful reddish brown bars) Let's get on... It start's to get really warm down here... Second Part is also finished! (Two almost identical rooms, side-by-side) Let's open the third bag... Contents of the Third Bag: (many minifigures in this bag along with some light bluish grey pieces) Interesting Pieces ( musicians's headpieces have a really awesome design, triple-axle is nice piece to use for mocs, Greedo's headpiece is also great for custom bad-guy minifigure and last the big bone and round tiles are a nice addition) yahoOOOoOOOOooooo... This part was really fast... Third Part is finished! (the interrior of the two rooms are linked with axles and they can be moved in and out) Let's open the Fourth Bag now Contents of the Bag: (Dewback is dominating the scene here xD) Interesting Pieces (Dewback definitily, if we consider him a "part" xD, the black masts, Stormtrooper's helmet and his cloak and last but not least the round tiles) Good boy Dewback... good boy.... Let's go on.... what is this thing now??? a mini bar? Fourth Part finished (we can see the main buildings are almost ready along with the cute mini bar at the corner) The new version of Mos Eisley Cantina has a lot of play potential, with those hinges used for the different rooms and the mini bar. Also the set is a great source of tan and dark tan pieces for mocers. Time for the Fifth one Contents of the Bag: (three colors are dominating this bag, tan, dark tan and light bluish grey) Interesting Pieces (the tan dome is great piece for mocs, the dark bluish barrel in useful because its not so common and last, the reddish brown bars are very useful for mocing) Let's put the chairs over there... Let me put the hinge over there... the wall is shaking... Oufff... I am almost finished Wow... nice view from up here Set Finished: Spare Pieces: Critique: A very beautiful set but most important with great pieces... While its a retired set, you can still buy one in good prices through Bricklink. Design: 9/10 A complete set regarding its design. I dislike the tan panels and they are too bulky for mocs and I would prefer some extra tan bricks instead.Price/pieces: 9/10 Dewback by itself makes the set worthy. It was the reason I bought it.Playability: 10/10 A set that lets your imagination flow and create many play scenariosConstruction: 9/10 An easy going and interesting Instructions procedureTotal: 9,25/10 Do you like weird LEGO parts? Dewback is definitely one of them... Quote
Frike Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Unfortunately I missed out on this set before it was retired. Great review, you just made me feel even worse about it! Quote
roadstermatt Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 that's a great set heres hoping we get an updated version this year its the 40th anniversary after all Quote
Littleworlds Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I blame this set for kickstarting my star wars addiction collection back in 2015. A beautiful set and indeed full of interesting minifigures and pieces. I can also highly recommend it and being a civilian building its also a welcome breath of fresh air from the usual combat-oriented sets. Your review is absolutely brilliant. Text, photos and fun little jokes - there is nothing left to wish for. Well done! Quote
makoy Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Great review! I agree with most of your points. This set is the "main ingredient" of my Cantina MOC. One full set and 2 parted-out sets without minifigs and the Dewbacks. I wish bought 1 more complete set for the Dewbacks. That being said, I really enjoyed this set because of Bith musicians and all the tan and dark tan parts included. As for the Dewbacks, I hope they will re-appear in a new set soon. Quote
RetroInferno Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Man I love this set so much, thank you for pourring that much effort and work into your review, it's incredible! The only criticism I have towards the set is that's I would have liked more of it. Some kind of add-on set for it would have been amazing, like the two thugs harassing Luke and the bartender. Quote
rollermonkey Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I got two of this, and built the second one mirrored to the instructions. At some point, I'll join the two at the bar and see how it works out. Quote
brobert Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 good review, too bad it came after the set was already retired though... anyways, I like this set, I was able to pick it up before retired with a nice discount, it has it's shortcomings, but TLG likes to give us ALMOST everything to a specific scene, so you have to buy more stuff to complete it. Other than that, it's great. Looks good on display like this. Quote
