Hey, I was thinking about doing this for a project on sunday with my kids. is this a 1 day build? 42055? we are huge fans of the discovery channel gold rush. whats everyone thing of this set?

In my opinion, this is definitely not a one-day build. It took me 4-5 days with about 4 hours a day, so unless you're planning a long build with a lot of people, it probably won't take just one day. I think that the set is very good and playable! It has a lot of functions and is motorized. I think this would be a great 2-3 day project!

Although I myself could have built it in one day (with sore fingers).. I spread it over 5-6 evenings, building with my 6yr old son

There are a few sections you need to be careful with, and not rush

It's a HUGE set.. great value parts-pack, when you eventually pull it apart...

Playability is 'ok'... not going to be as fun as the RC tracked racer, or a crane..

It can't scoop the pellets off the floor very well... but all the other functions work OK

You could always work 'in parallel'. That is what I do with my kids whenever we get a large lego set. One person uses the printed manual, the other team members build various 'sub-systems' based on PDF instructions on tablets (iPad), usually available on the lego website. It might not be as much fun ... but that's how we clear out the kitchen table in one evening.

Agree with all the comments above - it's definitly not a one day build - best done in stages, especially the B model.

I hope to receive in a couple of days a second BWE set for my upcoming LXX birthday, which I will use as a very useful parts source for other builds and also to buld the PV Productions GBC 15 if I can find space to build it !!
This is the first time I will have got two identical sets.

At the moment in the UK most retailers selling at 25% discount or better.

"Is it worth it?" i'd definitely say yes, then again, my love of giant industrial machinery might be a bit of a bias.

It is a long build (not extremely difficult, just long) but the model really grows in a great way.

You know you are OTD (like me) when you use Roman Numerals for your birthday.  Thanks for pointing out the PV  GBC. I will have a look at that.

I agree that the 42055 is a great parts donor, good value even at retail, but with a discount... All the better. I would get a second for parts, but I am running out of space to store! I will probably build once, then part out anyway.

Definitely worth it, if you are looking for a load of useful TECHNIC pieces. I didn't really buy the BWE for the model, but mainly for the 3000+ pieces the set includes, which was very useful for me.

I only recently pulled apart mine.. and now ALL my technic drawers/boxes are overflowing!

Now.. what to do with all those 5x7 frames!  need to make a nice tall GBC! :)
