I actually made this about a month ago, but wasn't entirely pleased with it. In the end, I decided to take some pics anyway. Here it is:

The Romans, having already conquered most of Europe, had their eyes set on Germania. Emperor Augustus sent a large army of some of his best legionaries to invade. Arminius, the chief of the Cherusci, made friends with the Romans and showed them a way to Germania, through the Teutoberg Forest.

Little did the Romans know that Arminius's army were waiting in ambush for them.

Suddenly, the Germans came from out of the trees and attacked the Romans from all sides.

The chaos ensues:

Finally, it was over. The Roman legions had been utterly destroyed. The Romans would never conquer Germania.

Feedback appreciated ;-)

As Cardinal Brick already pointed out, you captured the atmosphere and action very well. *y* As for the landscaping, I think that part of the MOC could've used a little more attention.

ok, let's check it out from 2 points:

-general point: a quite action packed scene, it really tells the story well. I really like the cat on the signifer's helmet.

-historical point: I myself haven't quite made a good purist Roman legionnaire yet, but let's check these figs. These Romans are based on 70's/60's movie like Spartacus, etc. I assume? These are based on the Roman soldiers seen on for example the column of Trajan/Traianus. Sadly, these were only for the "beauty" of them on the monuments, and aren't what we would see on the battlefield. The dragon helmet that is used, makes a resemblance to a Roman/Greek helmet because of the triangular frown in front of the helmet. These helmets were only worn by high ranking officers, and a standard legionnaire would never carry one. The time of August(us) was one with many civil wars, and the legionnaire started changing his appearance. The oval scutum would be replaced with a more rectangular, but still a little round scutum. The chainmail mostly remained the same, and the Coolus helmet or early Imperial Italic/Gallic helmets would be used instead of the Montefortino helmet wich was used up to shortly after Caesar's death. It could still be in service however. The figures use turned samurai armour, to look like lorica segmentata (segmentated armour) I think. This kind of armour would begin to appear around half-late 1st century AD. It would never been used at the time of August. The swords also don't resemble the Roman Gladius. The shield is OK to resemble the scutum used at that time. The signum is very nice, although perhaps you should change the yellow dishes to grey.

Keep in mind that there is no way yet to make good Roman figs, this is a good attempt. :-)

A very nice action packed scene TinyPiesRUs! *y*

You have excellent photography skills, you've captured the excitement of the battle well. I don't know whyy you weren't pleased with it, I think its fantastic, a brilliant example of great minifig positioning *y*

The shrubbery looks very neat too.

Good job all round I say, another fantastic moc to add to your memories.

Thanks everyone :-)

Thanks :-) I agree, it was hard finding appropriate parts for Romans. As you can see in some of the pictures, I've modded a dragon helmet to look more like a Roman one. Didn't go too well though :-$

Great work!

But don't forget that after this battle some major victories were won by the romans. Germania was never conquered, because it did not exist... large parts of the area were eventually conquered and/or partly romanised.
