Brickadier General Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 As a comparison, what does the two face van look like?Careful, my friend tried that on me and now when he closes his eyes he sees a Mario running around collecting stars. When I close my eyes I see this. lol Just to let you know thats Bestlock not Enlighten. I really don't think so. The original Bestlock had parts that were proportionally different to Lego bricks. The minifigs were also totally different from Lego's. I know now that Bestlock merged with Cobi and the figs look similar to Lego but they are flesh toned and the box art on their military sets do not look like these. Plus, the dude is located in China, which is a red flag. If you're doing one on clone brands, you might enjoy this review I did on an oxford set awhile ago. *wub* Oxford, the quality is as high as, or even higher than LEGO Yes I've heard of Oxford, and you are very lucky. I've tried to figure out where to get them but with no success. I bought what I thought was an Oxford tank off of e-bay, but it turned out to be a counterfeit (yes of a clone brand) by a company called "Sluban." And I have heard about the high quality too. But the counterfeit...oh my. One of the axels broke off so easily. And I would love to write something about Oxford, but I don't own any myself. I remember seeing a section in BrickJournal called "Not quite Lego." I think you should send an e-mail to Joe Meno about it and try writing an article yourself. I think it would be a nice read for AFOLs. Talk about Oxford and what kind of things they have to offer and how they compare with Lego...Basically like what you posted with a little more to flesh it out. Look at this look at this:A logo and text has been Paint-ed away under Ambulance Corps and above NO. 6032 Well maybe it sounds weird but if i am interested in anything, it's the cloak of edited images. I couldn't find an original image anywhere, somebody ?? - Rupee I can't believe I didn't notice that. I asked the seller what company made this set, and he didn't respond. I guess I know why now. lol With production moving to new countries, expect to see more of this. New employees with no real company loyalty may take an opportunity to make a quick buck helping out a competitor. It's something LEGO needed to consider, but probably didn't. It takes months to build up enough inventory of a set to release it, so they are being produced long before we see them on the shelves. During that time, a shady competitor pays a few bucks to the right person and they have one for their own purposes. Lego does have factories in China now, right? I have questions: Are they going to shove the sick man in to the side of the ambulance? Is there room for him in there? How will they get him over? It looks like that man will pick him up and toss him. Why isn't the other guy helping? Why is the other guy sleeping? Is he sleeping in a nativity? Or is that supposed to be a tent? Oh, it's a hospital tent, I suppose. Does the IV really work? How did the man get hurt? Did he trip? There doesn't seem to be a battle going on. Did he pass out from heat exhaustion? Was it an aneurysm? Anyone know? The answer to all these questions...the rules of logical thinking need not apply for counterfeiters. I bought this Enlighten set, and it says it's a "bullet train" on the box. Now I'm no expert on trains, but a bullet train that ain't. The trucks are the same dimensions and very similar. One question i have to add to Hinckley's list is what on earth does that thing on top of the van shoot? *wacko* P It's red, so I'm guessing...probably blood. lol Again, logical thinking doesn't apply to counterfeiters. Norro Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 [*]Is he sleeping in a nativity? Thanks for adding to my vocabulary! I'm no expert, but I'd never seen 'nativity' used as a noun (as opposed to a proper noun), closer inspection yields: nativity |nəˈtivitē; nā-| noun ( pl. -ties) the occasion of a person's birth : the place of my nativity. Very impressive Hinckley! God Bless, Nathan Quote
iamded Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) I have questions: Are they going to shove the sick man in to the side of the ambulance? Is there room for him in there? How will they get him over? It looks like that man will pick him up and toss him. Why isn't the other guy helping? Why is the other guy sleeping? Is he sleeping in a nativity? Or is that supposed to be a tent? Oh, it's a hospital tent, I suppose. Does the IV really work? How did the man get hurt? Did he trip? There doesn't seem to be a battle going on. Did he pass out from heat exhaustion? Was it an aneurysm? Anyone know? Oh! Oh! I know! Yes, they have no care for each other. There's always room, so long as you can push hard enough. You should know that! Picking up and tossing him leaves him without pain all the while he's travelling through the air. He actually drags him along with ground, just because he's a big Mr Grumpy Pants. The other guy is just enjoying the show, and knows that by not helping, he'll make the other guy angrier thus causing the wounded man more pain, thus a better show. That's how those guys roll. He's not sleeping. He's in a coma after having an aneurysm. No, he's 'sleeping' in his death bed. A tent, no, just a hastily erected cheap plastic covering. The 4? What 4? Oh, IV machine... no. They couldn't afford a real one, so made a look-alike one out of scrap. It's just for show. How did he get hurt? One question i have to add to Hinckley's list is what on earth does that thing on top of the van shoot? *wacko* I think you can piece them together... ;-) If not: No, he was gunned down by the Battle Ambulance. Heat exhaustion? Well, the bullets would be pretty hot, after being fired from the machine gun, and I assume he'd be exhausted considering all the blood loss... No, the other guy was the aneurysm guy. Hope I cleared things up for ya. :-D ~Peace, unlike those guys... Edited January 27, 2008 by iamded Quote

Minifig Lecturer Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I don't buy these "counterfeits" but I feel their presence is good. TLC needs strong competitors to force it to sell cheaper, be innovative and get up off its backside after falling on it in the late 1990s and early 00s. IMO many of these "counterfeiters", as well as the traditional competitors, produce better set designs than LEGO designers, often just lacking in the quality of the molded brick. But if this changes then TLC will be under financial threat in time no doubt. The world's largest toy market will be China soon and as incomes increase there the fight for their money will increase. Chinese people have no loyalty to a LEGO brand now as LEGO's presence there is historically virtually non existent so the new Chinese toy market can easily be lost by LEGO. In fact I would guess that the cheaper "fakes" sell alot more in China that LEGO do and LEGO is guaranteed to lose this market and possible become a number 2 worldwide in the coming decade or 2.
