While Dragonstone is under construction, Brandon has left governance of the settlement to his younger brother Charles Lantell, and his friend Captain Sault. Meanwhile, he has headed for the island of Sous le Vent, which currently is uninhabited by Oleanders. With a small ship and handful of men, Brandon plans to scout the island, and possibly even establish a settlement. For now, he plans to find a suitable place for future settlement, build a fort, and make treaty with any natives, if need be.

As Brandon lands on the shore of Ile Sous le Vent with 6 other men; four soldiers and two sailors, he hopes he is the first Halosian to step foot on the island. Any encounter with Corrington or Eslandola might not end well. And he hopes that the natives will be friendly. He turns to speak to a Ladrosian captain. "I'm told this island has suitable growing conditions, few highlands, and has large winds in the north. I wasn't told if there were natives, though."

"Well, if I'm correct, we will be the first Halosians these natives will meet, but it depends on how they think of us. If they're afraid, they might be hostile; if they're not, they will most likely be peaceful. We're farther east than ever before. I understand that we will only scout the southwestern part, then head back and build a fort? And that if we run into any natives, our plan is to make peace with them, correct?"

Brandon saw, from the corner of his eye, two more boats of sailors and soldiers were rowing towards the island. These soldiers were not going to be a part of a scouting mission, but instead would hold their position on the beach, set up camp, and possibly build a fort. "Yes, we are the first Halosians, I believe. We only scout the southwestern part, as that will be the only part we'll settle. Our plan is to make peace with the natives, if they're willing."

"I also seem to recall that the Oleander government isn't supporting us in our expeditions this far away, but also isn't stopping us though? If we run into problems, our only support is Dragonstone and Ladros. But again, let's be hopeful that the natives are peaceful." The captain shouted orders to the other men, who quickly grabbed their weapons and began to march. For Brandon, all he could do was hope the natives were friendly.

This is going to be the first installment of Brandon's story. It's a little plain, but it mostly serves to launch Brandon's story.

Hmmm, tread carefully young explorer...!

Don't worry, Brandon Lantell is back in Dragonstone. He was simply scouting.
