If I were to run LDraw on my PC, could I open the model on my Mac using Bricksmith?  And could I go back again?  Depending on my location, I work with PCs and Macs.  I'd love to be able to store my work in the cload, and access the files from either platform.

Yes. LDraw is a file format and all LDraw software can read and use LDraw files, either on Windows, Linux or Mac and in a multitude of different programs.

Although, some programs do add their own specific things into the file. For example, LDCad has its own way of generating flexible parts (which works really well btw). You can view those parts in any LDraw program without a problem, but only LDcad can edit those flexible parts in a meaningful way. Same thing goes for a few other programs and features.
