I had a box of Lego as a kid that contained parts for ( amongst other things ) a black steam train..

Bear in mind I might now 40, it would have been around 1980 ish?

i don't suppose there are any instruction databases that go back that far I could search? 

It would be nice to re-create it for nostalgia..

Peeron always used to be a great resource indeed. I think brick factory is the best for instructions though. Or http://letsbuilditagain.com.
