cptkent Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Well, not really a Christmas train setup - just a setup that come together for Christmas. I've been working on the layout for ages, but this is the first time it's been together in its entirety. I had a Christmas deadline as my Nieces and Nephews were visiting. What you see is the what remains after they had an afternoon playing with it! It's a modular layout, so from here on I can leave it packed up (it folds away), and remove individual modules as I want to work on them. Each module is a polystyrene board, holding 4 grey base plates in a row. My plans for the future are to restore it to it's pre-nephew state (it was a little more intact) and then work on each module in turn, developing the town, country, port, etc as I get to them. The track arrangement is largely settled, though about 1/3 of it will be replaced with larger radius Me-Models curves, in metal, should they ever arrive. Unfortunately they didn't make it in time for this Christmas, but it will be easy enough to upgrade if they ever arrive, and that will free up some other track for a couple of shunting yards. Outer loop is 9volt, inner track is regular plastic. Merry Christmas to you all. Quote
M_slug357 Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Looks good despite some play-- but ultimately that's what it's for yeah? Q: where does your layout fold away to? Quote
cptkent Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 Thanks. Yes the kids made a mess of it, but I only see them every few years so I wasn't too worried. And the trains need a run - that's why I built a layout. The lego is on polystyrene on MDF. You can't tell from this photo, as I have it set down at a lower level so the kids could reach it, but it usually sits up on the table in the background, and when I remove the taller buildings it can all fold up flat against the wall if required. Most of the time I just stack one 1/2 on another, which saves space, but still lets me get access. Quote
Man with a hat Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Nice and clever. I usually need to spend a day to set up our annual "christmas" layout for my nephews to enjoy. But they must have had some great fun looking at the "remains" Quote
