I really like the look of the, now previous, Police Station 60047. It looked modern and sleek and I went hunting for it on sale for 'half off' in the summer of 2016. It was $54 (normally $100) at Wallie World in the USA.

However one thing I REALLY hated about it was that the jail was so big, it was taller than the station because of the gate underneath. It looked like the designers made one building and then had to cut it in half and stick a prison in the middle. I also don't like the pointless gates that LEGO now adds because they are too cheap to give us two garage doors. Thankfully this is LEGO and things can be changed.

I still need to redo the interior and will add those pictures at a later date. I like how it came out. It's just slight mods to the left tower and right main building. Some more walls were added and the middle jail cell was just completely ignored and stuck on the side of the station. The best part is you get a bunch of extra pieces and I only added two 1x2 blue tiles / grills. Everything else came with the set. And if you don't have them you can use the two 1x2 grill pieces that came with the set and it look fine.

I like it! It makes the station look more realistic.

Thanks!

I think my main problem is that LEGO makes MASSIVE jail cells that can hold several minifigs. Mine are MUCH smaller, pretty much just a bed, sink and toilet. Real life there are 1-6 people in a cell when LEGO can do a dance number in just one cell.

Your welcome!

It does seem like jail size is a big problem for a lot of police stations. Im surprised that Lego doesn't make them smaller, as it could make room for more stuff.

The bigger cells must be selling. There used to be one decent size cell in the 90s. Then that one cell got a little bigger. Then two, then they get bigger and bigger. With the Police Island Jail I'd think the 2017 one would have a smaller cell so then you go buy the jail... nope.

But Metro PD Station in 1995-6 had it's own little cell, but the station was nice. The City Center Jr sets even had a small cell. In 2011 they made my favorite modern station and it has two cells, but it's well designed and they are small. Forrest Police half the station is a cell, then we have this set that just expands the two cells idea too much. I'd be fine with three cells as long as the station design doesn't suffer. But it's clear that the designers need to hit design points, two huge cells, a garage, a gate, a satellite dish, a $100 price point. The design of the building comes last.

I agree with you about how the big cells are selling. Kids probably like to store lots of figures in them, and are more intrested in the bigger ones.
