Kwatchi Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) While the Church of Old Faith, and its spiritual leader Bishop Meloche, does preach the gospel of Hades Ascendant, that does not mean the other two Aplynacian Gods are ignored. Zeus and Poseidon are recognized as lesser powers subservient to the Crimson Underlord, and each with the purview of the terrestrial and the nautical respectively. A shrine to both of them is found within Charlatan Bay. The Shrine of Poseidon Attendant is found in Lowtown along the edge of a rock shelf overlooking the harbour. The sea god is depicted as looking out over the waves, sitting on his throne amidst a pool of sea water. Many sailors leave a small devotion here prior to leaving on a cruise in the hope of currying his favour, for he is a capricious god and any chance of averting disaster is well worth the loss of a small treasure or bottle of spirits. While some scoff as to the effectiveness of such offerings, seaman point out that the sea water pool is miraculously never empty and the offerings disappear between sundown and sunrise each day regardless of the fact there is no clergy in Lowtown to maintain the shrine. This they say proves the holiness of the statue itself. What is a little known secret is that the church has not the one who commissioned this Shrine to Poseidon to be built. It was in fact constructed by a Mardieran sculptor turned con artist named Ernesto Alba, who created it out of loose rock and gold painted brass. Having seen similar behaviour in sailors in other colonies, he thought this an easy way to make a living. Unfortunately, Senor Alba was also a poor gambler and eventually was forced to admit the fraud to his debtors the Red Patch gang, after which they took control of the scheme as payment... and Ernesto disappeared under nefarious circumstances. The control of the shrine was wrestled away from the gang during one of the myriad of gang wars, and it has changed hands many times. At present it is under the control of the Mistress, Queenpin of Lowtown, and it seems unlikely she will let any rival wrest control from her while she remains atop the colony's criminal underworld. All this is known of course to Bishop Meloche, but as long as devotions to Hades are made he takes little interest. ============== UPDATE: This shrine was licensed in Charlatan Bay as a small Arts and Culture in the name of the winner of the Gangs of Charlatan Bay mini-challenge: nivremis. blackdeathgr Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Excellent idea of a MOC!!!! And the offerings are a nice touch! Aaaaaaaand... since most of us have forgotten the cultural aspect, this is indeed a nice reminder! Also i don't know why, but it feels very D&D-like for a gang to own a shrine! muhahahaha! Quote
Kolonialbeamter Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 This is a cool shrine, well depicted, detailed, and I love the story you came up with for it My favorite bit is that you used that triangle-in-a-circle-part thingy on top of Poseidon's throne... I'm using it for a project, too - seems SR con artists and Oleander clergy think alike... wait, what?! Quote
Capt Wolf Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Great shrine and MOC. I love all the offerings that have been left, and the small building facades as a background really help place the shrine in the context of Lowtown. Great storytelling, too! Quote
Tezclatipoca Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 That's a nice shrine ! Good representation of Poseidon. And I like the idea of the offerings (nice to see an apple among them ) Great job ! Quote
dr_spock Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Good looking shrine. I see hints of Atlantis and lots of tasty offerings. I suppose you could license it and then use the Adjudication Form to transfer ownership to the winner. Quote
Sir Stig Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 The illusion of houses and uneven baseplate sure works their wonders. The less bricks you use, and still manage to convey your story and atmosphere, the better. And you sir, have succeded at both. Great that it is not condemned upon worshiping other deities as well as Hades. Quote

My five year old, who's favourite Lego theme is Atlantis atm (thanks to Netflix having the cartoon in its rotation) came by, took a quick look with out saying a word, and then returned to plunk it on the throne triumphantly. I have high hopes for that one. As for the commonality, Meloche is a former Oleon monk so I guess it makes sense we are thinking alike? 6 minutes ago, dr_spock said: I suppose you could license it and then use the Adjudication Form to transfer ownership to the winner. That is probably the most eloquent solution to this. You've done it Mr. Dr. Spock! Finally, thanks for all the kind words everyone. And a reminder, only five (5) days left to get your gang entered for a chance to win this faabbbbbbullllous prize. Quote
