Wesley D Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Last year I bought Lego 31026 Bike Shop & Café, thinking about turning those buildings into modulars until I discovered that it would take much more bricks! I abandoned that idea, but still I felt the urge to make my first modular creation. A book store was something my modular street could welcome, so I began to gather my ideas and my bricks, then I bought a lot more of them and this is the result: The lower flour, crowded with books: First flour, with even more books! Upper flour, the book store's owner's room: Thank you for watching! Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Delightful modular design, might be time for the moderators to start another contest eh ? I chose Victorian era to base my latest, what era did you choose ? Brick On 'Wesley D' ! Quote
kjm161 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Fantastic first modular, love the floor and the cozy loft room for the storekeeper! A bookstore is definitely needed in the modular town and was the first build I tried. Building modulars can be addictive so there may be many more brick orders in your future. Cheers! Quote
Vorkosigan Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Very cozy bookshop, well done! Bedroom is a nice touch. Quote
peedeejay Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 That's a sweet little book store and a very good start for a first modular! Quote
BrickyBoy Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 That's a very good first modular! I really like! Indeed, cozy! I'm still undecided which business my modded bike shop will be (the facade is almost done). Never thought of a book shop. Do you mind my town will be opening a second branch? Quote
koalayummies Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Fantastic modular. Very detailed, fully tiled and I love the floor-door to the top floor. Elegant throughout the model. One heck of a first MOC modular. Quote
Wesley D Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 Thank you all for your comments! Building modulars is indeed very addictive! One has to have a lot of self-discipline to make it not get out of hand! Quote ... what era did you choose ? I thought it could have been built around 1900. Multiple elements are inspired by buildings here in Belgium from that era. Quote I'm still undecided which business my modded bike shop will be (the facade is almost done). Never thought of a book shop. Do you mind my town will be opening a second branch? I wouldn't mind at all! I would be very eager to see how you do it. I just don't know what the bookshop owner would think of a second branch, as he always considered his bookstore to be independent! Quote
ReplicaOfLife Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Nice! I like the clean exterior design, and the interior is perfect - nice details, and great use of space. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Nicely done. This unfortunately (or fortunately) looks similar to my own modded Cafe and Bike Shop. Obviously great minds think alike ;). Also, it is a similar base so naturally a lot of people will have similar looking facades. I do like the roofing of course. It works well. The gray stonework flanking the sides works well. The interior of course is fitting for the theme of the building. I really like the shop owner's room up top. Keep up the good work. Modulars are certainly addictive. I really need to get a camera to put all of mine on Eurobricks! Quote
Nexo Bricks Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 That is really nice! I'll go and dig out some parts and order some to make my own custom Modular! The Facade gave me so much Inspiration! Quote
Wesley D Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Thank you all! 10 hours ago, TheLegoDr said: This unfortunately (or fortunately) looks similar to my own modded Cafe and Bike Shop. I would like to see a picture of your modded Bike Shop & Café! When starting the topic, I wasn't sure if I could call it a MOC, as it was based on the 31026 set. I had bought it because I saw a lot of inspiration for a modular in it. Soon after starting however I experienced it would take a lot more bricks and creativity to make the set into a modular. The project was quite challenging and fun! Edited November 13, 2016 by Wesley D Quote
Zork Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Can't keep up with yours. Maybe that's why I'm still working on my first MOC MOC or not is hard to say - IMO. Maybe you've seen a picture from something some time ago. Then one day you start with a "MOC" and you have this idea in your head but you don't know where it came from. I call this inspiration - learning from each other. If this was my book store, I would have added some books from the Harry Potter sets. Like your book store, especially the store owner - he fits perfect. Quote
Wesley D Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 Thank you! I just Googled those books, as I'm not familiar with the Harry Potter theme. They would indeed fit right in! Between the tiles representing books I have put some real Lego books, but they aren't visible in the pictures. I'm thinking about placing a few more of them. Quote
