With G2 now at an end, my mind is beginning to shift towards viewing Bionicle in a more nostalgic light. With that I have began to notice the listings on Bricklink and other online stores for the old 2001 Rahi sets. I thought the Rahi were perfect introductions to Technic building, and helped bridge the gap between the simple Bionicle Toa designs, with that of the complex Technic vehicles. While I am low on funds right now, I am considering that when I have the opportunity I should collect the Rahi sets from 2001 to make a complete  collection. The only classic Rahi I own are the Nui-Jaga and the Manas (with only my purple Nui-Jaga being built right now and the other three figures scattered in the parts bin). Heck maybe I could use the opportunity to get the McTohunga I lack and also get the 2015 sets I lack to create some collection showcasing the first years of both generations or something like that...

With that said, I have a few questions:

What Rahi do you recommend buying first?

Do you think the current Bricklink prices will remain steady for the next few years to allow me time to amass the collection?

Is it worth trying to also Bricklink the parts for the Sand Tarakava and the 2002 Master Builder's set?

And the big one, the motors on my two Manas came to me about dead. Is there any way to replace them, or rewire them? If you have by chance seen my Brickset review of the Manas you know I hated those motors (http://brickset.com/reviews/49470),and I don't want to make an effort to rebuild them if their primary function is just a dead weight. The controllers were pretty bad to...

Absolutely bricklink the 2002 master builder set, Its expensive. The Nui Ramu are a good start, tarakava are probably my favorite. Been a long time since I looked at prices though, I completed my rahi back in 2010 when bionicle was cancelled the first time.

The Nui Rama are appealing due to their low cost; and those trans blue Ruru masks! Definitely something on my mind.

Also speaking of the need for new electronics for my Manas; I noticed most Mana motor casings go for $1.00-$3.50 on Bricklink. Rather cheap I think; but I worry they will suffer from the same issues as the ones I have. Might be something though I will consider, because if I could score two good motors for a total of $8.00; that could be all I need to properly restore the Manas.

Tarakava are awesome, I recommend getting them first. Muaka and Kane-ra is cool set too, but maybe a bit over-complex compared to Tarakava, which has a perfect battling experience.

On Manas motors, I would just Bricklink a working one. A friend tried to fix one once without any decent results, and the cheapest tested working one seems to go for 2€.

Manas motors are kinda iffy, but they should last a while if your nice to them. Those old rubber bands are bad though, crumble away after about a year of use.

+1 on the Tarakava, they were the last 2001 Rahi I built and I was absolutely blown away by how good they were. Plus, teal is an amazing color that I wish Lego would bring back, maybe with Elves or something. I'm about ~20 sets away from finishing my G1 collection, but right after I finish I'm going to bricklink the Sand Tarakava, just need to look for the instructions/pieces first. The Nui-Jaga are probably the worst of the bunch. They're not really bad per say, they just aren't as good as the others. The Nui-Rama are pretty good and the Nui-Kopen combiner is fantastic as well. Muaka and Kane-Ra have a really nice build, and their head snapping function is great. I wouldn't dare snap the Infected Haus though!

With regards to pricing, what I've noticed on eBay at least, is that prices seem to be on an upward trend ever since G2's cancellation was announced. New, sealed canister sets from 2005-2009 used to sell around $10-$25 USD about 6 months ago. Now, those same sets sell for anywhere from $30-$45. I don't buy used Bionicle sets so I can't say for sure if those follow what new sets are doing, but I would guess that they do. I sometimes look at the used sets to see prices and there seem to be good deals all the time, especially if you don't want canisters/instructions (which I do, hence why I tend to buy new). My best guess for the price increase is that a good amount of people are also trying to complete their collections in light of the cancellation. Overall, I'd guess that prices will eventually die down once Bionicle fades back into the shadow, but I can't say for sure.
