Xanox Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) The name is Jeroen, I Live in the Netherlands and i always help my mom building her christmas village (its bein part of her birthday gift from me for years) and recently thought of adding a lego train to her collection. Now i have some questions about lego trains and which are compatible with one another, so i thought i would sign up here to see if you guys would be able to help out. Also while im here anyway im going to look around a bit to see what kind of amazing stuff you guys come up with. Im kinda curious now. Kind greetings, Jeroen Edited October 17, 2016 by Xanox Quote
Phil B Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 All LEGO trains are compatible with one another when it concerns wheels, track sizes and couplings. The only place where there is incompatibility is the traction system, ranging from 4.5V battery to 12V to 9V transformer and currently Power Functions. And the 9V version requires special metal track (compatible with normal plastic track), as it works just like a model train railroad (HO or N) and gets power from the track. The good news is that you can operate multiple systems together, and often you can change a train from one system to another (though Power Functions requires more space inside the train (receiver, batterypack) than 9V so you might have to employ some clever modifications). If you're getting started, you should use Power Functions (the current system) as it is easy and (relatively) cheap to get. Only if you are already invested in older systems should you continue to expand those - prices keep rising for the old stuff as it is no longer produced (coming close to 10 years since 9V closed down). Capparezza Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Hey there and welcome to the club! Seems Jeroen is a pretty popular name for you Dutchmen, I already know two with that name (out of 3 dutchmen all together ). Be sure to make your next stop at the Trains forum to get some coals and fresh water for your steam engine Quote
Xanox Posted October 17, 2016 Author Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the welcome :) I actually have some 12v tracks laying around and dug them up. I will start a new topic to get the right attention for the matter, we just ordered the 10254 winter holiday train and now im trying to figure out how to power the bunch. My preference would go to powered rails as i could just run them without batteries and power the whole thing on and off with the rest of the stuff. It (kinda) got out of hand, this time we will have a Christmas village containing the following items (so you can get an idea of the whole lot): - 2 villages - A big mountain with: - 2 Ski slopes - A ski lift with sitlifts and cabins - A real river running down the mountain - A lego train running through the mountain between the villages and back around the front of the mountain. - A whole buch of other stuff I would appreciate any good luck wishes as i will need it.
