Hi all,

I'm a brand new member to the Eurobricks forum. I have been a longtime crane enthusiast and have been reading with awe about some of the Liebherr LTM 11200 models on this forum; I am absolutely floored by the detail and engineering that goes into these cranes.

I was wondering how I can embark on replicating a large scale Liebherr LTM 11200. Is there a DIY or are there schematics posted online? Being new to this community, I am not sure what the protocol is when it comes to sharing the shematics for these models. Is it considered improper or against the norms of the community share these schematics?

Any advice or insight you can offer would be appreciated.

There might be many people with information about this kind of cranes, you could get many inspiration from them, but it also depends of the scale, this factor can completely change the way you build a crane (the parts amount or the way they hold the weight), so, if you want to make a crane it is recomendable to look at your parts inventory, this way ou will have an idea of how big you can make a crane, and after that, try to look for cranes of the same size or scale, and with that you could be able to make a good quality crane.

It all depends on the scale, looks and the functionality you want to incorporate.

Scale: Based on either the standard lego truck wheels (61.4 mm) aka 42009 scale or the huge Unimog tires (very challenging to get a working boom at that scale)

Functionality: Basic functions (steering, slewing, rasing, extending boom, extending outriggers) or all out (raising, rotating, tilting operator cabin, double cable drum, raising counterweight, extending spreaders on boom, extending legs on boom, crab mode steering, etc.) and then the choice manual vs electric

Looks: Technic finish or model team finish (system bricks)

If you want 42009 scale, technic style finish, all out functionality I can help you with a starting point: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=89963&hl=liebherr

Thank you all for the kind suggestions and help. Thanks for your reply in particular Knight; I had read about your build in detail and was hoping to create a model like yours. Is there a straightforward way to figure out what steps to take to recreate your crane? Or is it a matter of reverse engineering the schematics?

Also, what is the best strategy to amass all the pieces necessary for the build?

Thank you all again for the advice and pointers!

Hi (I assume you meant me with Knight  )

I tried to send you a PM (Personal Message), but unfortunately you do not have enough posts (10) yet to use that system. You can send me an email at jjottens (at) onsmail.nl to discuss in more detail how my model could get you started.

The 42009 is definitely a good starting point. If you have 2 of these plus the Arocs you have 75% of the parts I used in my version.

An 11200 is quite something to buidl..If this wouid be your first project, I'd recommend rather start with something smaller. Just to get an idea of what you're up to.
