TeufelHund Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I just got this book today. I'm not really interested in the included microfighter but here's my thoughts on the book itself: It's pretty much based on the OT era with a tiny bit of PT built in (there's a page about podracers). There are a bunch of minibuilds set on Tattoine, Hoth, Bespin and Endor, plus a rebel base. There are no real spacecraft builds featured but plenty of smaller vehicles. Some of these are quite interesting but others have been produced so often in genuine sets (eg snowspeeders) that including them here seems like a waste of space. The book is clearly targeting younger builders and most of the techniques featured are pretty basic. There are a few useful examples (I really liked the Jawa's junk shop) but quite a bit of stuff that while fun wouldn't work too well with a "serious" take on the SW universe (a BBQ, podium for Pod Race winners, "Hoth" tub etc etc). The photography is excellent as I most DK books. Overall I'd say kids will get the most fun out of this book but some stuff might be of interest to AFOLs. Quote
manglegrat Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 I just got this book today. I'm not really interested in the included microfighter but here's my thoughts on the book itself: Thanks for the quick review! Funnily enough, I'm mostly just interested in the microfighter rather than the book itself (waiting to get an inventory on Bricklink before I decide whether to get the book or BL the parts and download instructions), but appreciate the info around the minibuilds, etc. Might be worth getting the book after all... Anyway - cool info, thanks! Quote
TeufelHund Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) After further reviewing the book I've decided this will be a Christmas present for my 8 year old...the builds are just too basic and small to be of real interest to an AFOL but I think there are some great pointers for kids in there. Obviously with that in mind I haven't built the microfighter but it looks about the same level of detail as the other microfighter sets if that is your main interest. One fun thing about reading the book is that you can tell what sets the designer owns based on the minifig selection in his builds (hint: Boba Fett features arm printing!). atlas Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Hi, would you mind posting a pic of the pilot? Thanks Quote
Foyzanator Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I purchased the book, and it has potential to be used for larger builds, the microfighter-esque build is fun and is being used in my current MOC. I hope DK produce more of these! Quote
