Hello All,

So I've been working on a large scale MOC for the better part of a year of the Vietnam War. It has been my most ambitious and challenging build to date. The hardest part of this build has been the landscaping by far. Moving Rice Paddies to the thick jungle and still having a presentable MOC with plenty to see.

I am curious if anyone here has ever done a full scale jungle build before. How did you build your trees? How did you balance between "filling out" the jungle and still being able to see what's going?

I'm at that point where I'm just looking for ideas to keep the mind fresh and perhaps give me more ideas to add as I progress through this build.

Thanks,

My question wasn't so much how to build any of those things, it was finding a balance between overbearing jungle (which Vietnam's Jungle's are) and still allowing detail to poke through. Just looking to see what others have done as I create certain scenes.

Yeah in a sense. Your ground coverage is impressive. I'll be needing to do that as well. The Vegetation in Vietnam was always noted as super dense with double and triple canopy coverage. Rice Paddies over there are more squared off sections instead of broken up hills and they can cascade directly into thick jungle. I have my work cut out for me

Yeah that is definitely more in line with what they looked like over there during the war. I've seen that one before, there were parts I liked and some I really didn't. Considering mine is somewhere around 6-8 feet long, I have separate sections throughout that work into each other. So I have a large area I need to cover.

I'll suggest the fern plants- don't know their real name and then flower stems.

The ferns are a little harder to come by, the plant stems can be found on pick a brick walls normally. You can increase and decrease the height/depth by placing them in top of the other for desired effect. I did this with my Endir display

Maybe make the trees and canopy tall so it frames what is below.

I think a combination of these would work best for a ground covering:

The last part out of the four isn't cheap though.

These can also work well for thick vegetation as I did here- 27972469156_38d112e9dc_t.jpg (larger image in signature).
